Pole Paradise Studio announces the 3rd “PPS Aerial Performance Tournament 2012”. 
At the Sheung Wan Civic Centre, Theatre (Hong Kong). 
On Monday 12th November 


One winner from each category will be crowned and finally an Ultimate Champion will be chosen from the 3 discipline winners. There will also be a special prize for the Best Costume and also a special new category sponsored by MyExtrainch.com based on inner showgirl/ show boy potential.

Judging will be last year’s Ultimate Champion Masayao Okamoto (Japan), Zoey (Hong Kong) the aerial hoop winner from 2011 and the return of last year’s judge Suzette Ackerman owner of Desert Mermaids (Hong Kong).

By the time of the competition I would have only  had 4 lessons so I am quite nervous.
I have lived in Ibiza for the past 7 years and worked as an acrobat there and this is where I first saw pole dancing performed as an art about a year ago, which I loved and was amazed by so I have wanted to learn from then on.

I returned to England to have a baby, so I have a baby boy who is now 6 weeks old, after having my baby I thought the perfect way to get back into shape and learn something which I’ve wanted to do for a while now was to start pole fitness classes.
I live in West Sussex and have a 3 year old daughter as well as my new baby boy. For work I am a Sports Injury Therapist and an acrobat. I was a gymnast for many years, and competed to a high level, I retired from gymnastics in 2007 but have found my gymnastics background has helped me when learning the different pole skills. I absolutely love Pole Dancing and am so glad I’ve found something that keeps me fit which I can still use my skills and challenge myself. ‘

To qualify as a competitor please note the following basic requirements
All correspondence must be in English (please seek a representative or translator if English is not your first language)
State whether you are male or female when applying
State which category or categories you are applying for (you can apply for singles and doubles)
- Male singles
- Synchronised Doubles – mixed and same sex gender
- Female singles

All applications must be over 18 years old (on or before November 01st 2012)
It is the applicant’s responsibility to gain all relevant visas in time for registration

1. The evolving of the pole activity in the last 10 years

This in my view has been amazing, always with the unquestionably belief it would get big but never in the capacity, extent and speed in which we are witnessing.  This I believe has been the factor of two possibilities - the competitions have made the techniques available and accessible for all to see and join in to and  the contribution of social media sites such as Facebook, Youtube and the internet. My day is filled with emails and conversations of many different cultures beliefs and ideas from people from all over the world. I am proud to be a major innovator and pioneer here in the UK and world and will continue to do so for many more years to come

2. the competitions and recognition achieved

The competitions have grown too naturally – It was always going to be a natural progression of our sport to show case our art and expertise to all.  My main aim was to create a main stage for people to do this without the fear of being wrongly judged. This I am proud to have achieved already

I, with our network of international supporters, continue to adapt and create

National and International Rules and regulations created and adapted since 2004, yearly as the competitions evolve and challenge

Code of pole ethics – created in 2006 setting and maintaining standards

Health and safety documentation created and up held

Competitor support in the case of chaperone responsibilities documented

Sponsorships are growing as too are the number of cheerleaders

Numbers both in competitors and spectators are increasing every year too

Media interest is increasing every year and more positivity is created

3. Who are the main players within the industry (pole dancers, product and school representatives, instructors and event's organisers)

This is always a difficult one to start as list of individuals and we should question How is this list formulated or individuals recognised? By the amount of titles they hold? or the amount of hours they dedicate to their training? or is it the amount of hours they dedicate to others to enhance and promote their talents?  There are many hidden and more silent types that do exceptional work in the back ground that have smaller egos than others but without these many key individuals the industry would not be where it is today for sure.  Had you asked me this question 8 years ago I could have listed the people probably on one hand  

 
4. pole dance as a definition today

Pole dance is still portrayed in many forms with many expressions and techniques that is what makes it such a special type of innovative sport and dance and why it is here to stay.

The competitions help very much in this creation and education for which I am very proud to be a part of since 2004. Let’s not forget why Miss Pole Dance was first formulated way back in 2003 – to educate and market to people who had not had the opportunity  in visiting a gentleman’s club as to that is where the foundations were laid. Obviously still to this day we are seeing new innovative variations of moves and combinations

Let’s keep its definition simple to sensual movements on and around a vertical bar, portraying power, strength, flexibility, creativity and technical skill

5. what is in the future of the pole

The sky is the limit let’s not lose sight of all the greats who stood up in the beginning treading new ground and still continue to do so 10 years on

The Passion for the pole is still very much there for me as I am sure for many other thousands of people across the globe who have joined the sport since

Let’s continue to work together for a force for good

Lead not destroy but let’s work together in harmony for a healthier and happier future for pole fitness and freedom of choice.

The Importance of a Pole Competitor Chaperone

Chaperone Duties and responsibilities.

Competitor Chaperones were introduced into pole competitions  by Kay Penney in 2004

Over the years this important role has been somewhat under estimated. But without the valuable support of these important people many of the competitors and pole masters would not be where they are today

Who makes a good chaperone?

This obviously depend on the competitor of course as not each person requires the same support as each other.

Examples of a good chaperones would be

Your training partner

Your instructor

Your partner

Someone who knows you really well

Your best friend

What are the main roles of a competitor chaperone?

And why have a chaperone to support each competitor?

Again these roles vary from competitor to competitor but the duties below may be considered

·         To look after the competitors belongs during training and the competition itself

• ·         Help with costumes, makeup and hair
• ·         Support in travel to and from the venues
• ·         Support during rehearsals and stage preparations
• ·         Support for physical massage and sports therapy which may include stretching and injury prevention
• ·         Mental support in maintaining peak performance
• ·         To give valuable feedback during training and competition warm ups and presentations
• ·         To be the professional voice between the competitor and organisers
• ·         To look after and collect any props after the show
• ·         To help with competitor and music registrations
• ·         To help with pole preparation and cleaning
• ·         To help maintain their hydration and nutrition levels

What are the down sides of being a competitor chaperone?

You will be the first one usually that a competitor may ‘stress to’ should such a situation arise. It is important that you do not take the comments literally and personally and always have a supportive, positive and encouraging manner no matter how stressful the situation may appear at that time.

Quite often your duties require you to be back stage during the completion as your competitor may wish to have you  back stage with them for moral support, which may mean you either miss the show or have very limited viewing.

What are the advantages of being a chaperone?

Apart from the obvious one of supporting a dear friend and being a part of their success there is that sence of accomplishment and of course contribution.

You also get to be alongside some of the great pole champions where otherwise you may not have the opportunity.

In some situations you get reduced ticket cost and priority VIP seating

Official statement from Miss Pole Dance UK & Mr Pole Fitness UK organisation

Upon our investigations since an anonymous source on 18^th June and further on 29^th June 2012 We are satisfied as an organisation that his present stature is one of a positive one for the pole fitness and dance industry and himself and therefore wish to support his worthy and accredited Mr Pole Fitness UK 2012 title.

Nico, like all competitors sign an agreement binding them to the rules of the competition. Since the disclosure we have clarified Rule 4 to remove any ambiguity. Rule 4 is clarified below.

We also immediately contacted Nico for his clarification that what had been brought to light, was in fact his past and not his current situation where he has assured us both verbally and in writing that this is the case and has also posted this statement:-

‘I signed the rules and regulations in good faith and I can guarantee that I am not undertaking any activities that will put the competition and fellow competitors in disrepute and I have no connection with past activities linking it now or in the future to my current "Mr Pole Fitness UK" title. Being an ambassador for male pole dancing and the UK is such an honour and I am so grateful. Coming from nothing, it allows me to enjoy my role with so much respect and consideration.

 I would like to say how sorry I am because of my past and mistakes have come to tarnish the image of pole dancing once again.

No words could possibly describe how sad and ashamed I feel right now. I am truly sorry for the bad publicity and hassle I am causing you and the organisation.

I never meant for it to happen at your event as I never imagined in a million years becoming someone or Mr Pole Fitness UK.

It took a while before I was able to send out my application as I wanted to avoid a certainly inevitable scandal for myself and also for everyone else, which would have been just like an impending storm at such a large scale event.’

Based on his signed acceptance of our rules and the fact this matter is in his past we have decided he should keep his title based on Rule 4.

Confirmation of Rule 4 changes: 

A4 - 'The candidate is not employed in the pornographic industry or to make any reference to any industry which is connected to the pornographic industry' will change to - 

A4 - 'The candidate is not currently employed in the pornographic industry or will make now or in the future any references to the pornographic industry in reference to their title  Miss Pole Dance and Mr Pole Fitness or bring the names  'Miss Pole Dance' and 'Mr Pole Fitness,'  into disrepute.

Three independent international judges,  (1 male and 2 females) judged his pole technique and performance on the day of June 2^nd 2012. His award winning performance far surpassed the other 7 contestants competing for the worthy title of Mr Pole Fitness UK. He was not only being judged on stage presentation, dance / fitness choreography and pole tricks and combinations – I think it is without question he brought a whole new energy and dynamics to Pole fitness for men on that day.  – He remained professional and ethical throughout the day towards his fellow competitors and to that of the organisation and continues to do so, despite what has now come to light.

 We believe Nico is worthy of the title, Mr Pole Fitness UK, not for his past but for his positive and life changing future and for the here and now. We have worked long and hard to support all who are passionate and talented within our industry and will remain to do so with Nico as long as he wishes to continue with the sport and his unquestionable talent.

We hope the above has supported and answered some questions some of you may have and please do not hesitate to email if you have any further questions regarding this or similar matters.

We thank those individuals for spending the time to contact us  about their personal views for the good of the positive way forward for pole dance and fitness.

We do hope that the above has clarified our decision and that we can NOW all move forward positively with a fellow pole supporter and welcome him into an industry that is renown worldwide for a non judgemental, friendly, positive and empowering confidence and we hope that people will no longer judge any individual because of an unfortunate past which has to be delved into to find, especially when they are so desperately trying to forget and correct, by giving back to thousands who in the future will enjoy his talent and performances, for which we hope, many years to come, and most importantly supporting a fellow poler who has found their new and positive passion for life. – We do not want to become a dictatorship although we do understand the  concerns raised.

We do not judge someone for their past, but only for their future.
