Michael Donohoe Mr Pole Fitness UK Champion 2015

Michael Donohoe
Mr Pole Fitness UK 2015 champion

I have been doing pole acrobatics for 3 years now. I train and teach at Fierce Fitness Dance Studio in Ireland.
I am a full time Pole Instructor, acrobatic strength coach, nutritional advisor and lifestyle coach at Fierce Fitness Dance Studio.
I have been in the fitness industry now for 10 years and love what the world of pole is bringing to it.
I have 5 winning Irish titles,
I placed 3rd last year at Mr Pole Fitness UK
and recently was a finalist at the World Pole Sport & fitness Championships in China, Beijing.
I have also had the pleasure to teach a variety of workshops in a number of countries around the world, and look forward to teaching more.
Michael’s background is in Street Dancing and some experience in gymnastics but none compared to pole when it came to enjoyment and fulfilment

Sam King Mr Pole Fitness UK....running around the woods in only his pole shorts!!

Pole Passion Chichester, owned and operated by Karla McCarthy, was proud to host Mr Pole Fitness runner up 2015 and Best Entertainer Champion, Sam King in October 2015, soon after the Mr Pole Fitness UK championships, for a series of one to ones and master classes.

Sam has performed all over the globe as a pole dancer and holds such titles as:-
European Champion 2014,
Polenastics Male Champion 2014,
BPSC Male champion 2014,
Mr Pole fitness UK 2015 Professional Category, Runner up & Best Entertainer Award 2015.

Karla arranged for Sam to visit after he had been supporting his students at Miss Pole Dance UK semis and amateurs, earlier in the year. Sam contacted Karla about a photograph that she had taken and the remainder of the story unfolded.

'Sam taught two workshops at our Chichester venue. An intermediate workshop and his Ninja Moves workshop and with his wonderful teaching manor, I found he was great at adapting to students of all levels without once making anyone feel like they are not achieving. Everyone felt very safe with Sam spotting', explained Karla, 'and during the workshops, Sam was very careful to teach everyone how to spot the moves that were being practised before everyone started so that they could be safe working with each other.'

The content in the workshops was great. Rather than lots of individual moves that may have left people feeling deflated, Sam focussed on walking everyone through some of the combinations of spins and transitions that he is known and loved for. Everyone got through a huge amount of content and everyone was able to achieve something overall. Sam makes the lessons incredibly fun and is amazingly positive and inspiring throughout. Everyone was thrilled to receive one of Sam's 'big tens' at one point or another!

The rest of the weekend was also great fun too . After finishing workshops, the Manager of Pole Passion Chichester classes Karla,  along with some other colleagues took Sam out for dinner and then the night finished off with some fun chat and a cheeky glass of red.

On Sunday morning, Karla picked up Sam and they headed over to Slindon woods where she put her other skills, as a photographer to use and held a woodland photoshoot. Running round the woods with a man in his pole shorts was not the worst job Karla has ever had! They attracted quite the attention from the dog walkers in the woods with massive amounts of positivity being received about the athleticism and strength that Sam's woodland possesses. Once that was complete, it was on to more one to ones for Sam and then a massive plate of nacho's before the train ride home.

Karla has said that all of her girls have demanded that she organises Sam's return next year. He is one of the most kind hearted and genuinely happy people that Karla says she has ever met and she is chuffed to now count him amongst her friends and pole gallery greats! He has said he would be happy to come back again and Pole Passion Chichester cannot wait to get it organised!

Miss Pole Dance UK amateurs and semi professional championships 2015

The new and bigger venue was still too small!!  with increasing numbers descending on sleepy Felbridge Village Hall on June 28th, for the all day event of competitions, Pole Passion is set to expand further for 2016.

The 5 competitions supported and promoted 48 competitors and the national Mr Pole Fitness UK 2014/5 champion Dave Skda.
New champions were crowned and new records were set - even the new Pole Beat champion pole dance battle was yet again won by a woman - Rose-a-Lisa

Kay Penney, Pole pioneer and her dedicated team of students, and instructors worked incredibly hard to keep the day running smoothly. for me Miss Pole Dance is about educating the public, an opportunity for people to see pole fitness for the first time maybe, in a professional and organised competition structure.

The two chosen charities this year were selected by tow of Pole Passion  instructors and were
Chailey Heritage Foundation  and The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation - both receiving cash from the donated raffle prizes

Ian Matthews Runner up Mr Pole Fitness UK 2013

Ian Matthews Congratulations again for coming Second in the Mr Pole Fitness UK 2013 Male Championships Competition, you should be very proud of yourself, I know we are.  We would greatly appreciate your feed back on how you are feeling about your achievement so we can let the rest of the pole community know.

· How does it feel to be runner up in the Mr Pole Fitness Champions UK 2013?

I'm ecstatic to have placed 2nd in MPF 2013! Congrats to all the placed winners!
I'm very fond of this particular competition and the amazing team in Pole Passion that run this fab event, so it was an absolute pleasure to be competing on that stage once again!

· Did you go in it to win it?
I hadn't competed since last year’s event, and the level of ability in male competitors in the UK has sky rocketed in recent times!  So I went in just wanting to be happy overall with my performance which I was! And hopefully it made my supporters proud!

· Are you classically dance trained?
I originally came a dance background in street dance for over 10 years. One of the many things that pole has done for me since I started, is now I embrace many more dance styles and love how they can interact in this art!

· How long have you been Pole Dancing for?
For about 41/2 years now.

· What made you get into it?
I helped choreograph and co-perform a dance routine for someone who was  performing at a pole competition. It was the first pole competition I had ever seen and after being blown away by what I was seeing from these talented competitors on the vertical bar, I was inspired to begin myself, and add my own elements of dance style to it! I haven't looked back since!

· Has this competition given you a hunger to compete in more competitions?
I'm glad, but also sorry to say that MPF 2013 was my last competitive performance!
I have competed in a fair few competitions since starting and I feel the time is now right for me to focus completely on instruction for my students and my Master class held throughout the UK. I want to pass on my knowledge and experience on to them and any up and coming pole competitors!

· What advice would you give to anyone who has never competed before?
If you want to take your pole training to a high level, then I would say it is definitely something to experience at least once. It's good to have something to work towards!  For a performance, my advice would be to focus on a theme and music piece that you can connect to emotionally and that has personal meaning to you. Then you will find that emotion will be portrayed on the stage. Lastly, make sure you are doing it for 'YOU' and for your growth as a performer, not just because you just want a title.

· Do you have a Pole Idol?
I don't have any specific pole idols really! I have met and have so much respect for many pole artist's from all over the world and I love to see the many styles that are performed now!

· Were you nervous on the day of the competition?
Personally, I find that my previous experience with performing on stage in my dance career has taught me to not let nerves get the better of me. I suppose I've learnt to focus the nervous tension!
I know how hard it is in the beginning of a performing career and getting up on a big stage is scary!, but in time, a regular performer will gain that focus.

Mr Pole Fitness UK 2012 champion Nico Modestine official statement

News flash

Official statement from Miss Pole Dance UK & Mr Pole Fitness UK organisation

Upon our investigations since an anonymous source on 18th June and further on 29th June 2012 We are satisfied as an organisation that his present stature is one of a positive one for the pole fitness and dance industry and himself and therefore wish to support his worthy and accredited Mr Pole Fitness UK 2012 title.

Nico, like all competitors sign an agreement binding them to the rules of the competition. Since the disclosure we have clarified Rule 4 to remove any ambiguity. Rule 4 is clarified below.

We also immediately contacted Nico for his clarification that what had been brought to light, was in fact his past and not his current situation where he has assured us both verbally and in writing that this is the case and has also posted this statement:-

‘I signed the rules and regulations in good faith and I can guarantee that I am not undertaking any activities that will put the competition and fellow competitors in disrepute and I have no connection with past activities linking it now or in the future to my current "Mr Pole Fitness UK" title. Being an ambassador for male pole dancing and the UK is such an honour and I am so grateful. Coming from nothing, it allows me to enjoy my role with so much respect and consideration.

I would like to say how sorry I am because of my past and mistakes have come to tarnish the image of pole dancing once again.
No words could possibly describe how sad and ashamed I feel right now. I am truly sorry for the bad publicity and hassle I am causing you and the organisation.

I never meant for it to happen at your event as I never imagined in a million years becoming someone or Mr Pole Fitness UK.

It took a while before I was able to send out my application as I wanted to avoid a certainly inevitable scandal for myself and also for everyone else, which would have been just like an impending storm at such a large scale event.’

Based on his signed acceptance of our rules and the fact this matter is in his past we have decided he should keep his title based on Rule 4.

Confirmation of Rule 4 changes:

A4 - 'The candidate is not employed in the pornographic industry or to make any reference to any industry which is connected to the pornographic industry' will change to -
A4 - 'The candidate is not currently employed in the pornographic industry or will make now or in the future any references to the pornographic industry in reference to their title  Miss Pole Dance and Mr Pole Fitness or bring the names  'Miss Pole Dance' and 'Mr Pole Fitness,'  into disrepute.

Three independent international judges,  (1 male and 2 females) judged his pole technique and performance on the day of June 2nd 2012. His award winning performance far surpassed the other 7 contestants competing for the worthy title of Mr Pole Fitness UK. He was not only being judged on stage presentation, dance / fitness choreography and pole tricks and combinations – I think it is without question he brought a whole new energy and dynamics to Pole fitness for men on that day.  – He remained professional and ethical throughout the day towards his fellow competitors and to that of the organisation and continues to do so, despite what has now come to light.

We believe Nico is worthy of the title, Mr Pole Fitness UK, not for his past but for his positive and life changing future and for the here and now. We have worked long and hard to support all who are passionate and talented within our industry and will remain to do so with Nico as long as he wishes to continue with the sport and his unquestionable talent.

We hope the above has supported and answered some questions some of you may have and please do not hesitate to email if you have any further questions regarding this or similar matters.

We thank those individuals for spending the time to contact us  about their personal views for the good of the positive way forward for pole dance and fitness.

We do hope that the above has clarified our decision and that we can NOW all move forward positively with a fellow pole supporter and welcome him into an industry that is renown worldwide for a non judgemental, friendly, positive and empowering confidence and we hope that people will no longer judge any individual because of an unfortunate past which has to be delved into to find, especially when they are so desperately trying to forget and correct, by giving back to thousands who in the future will enjoy his talent and performances, for which we hope, many years to come, and most importantly supporting a fellow poler who has found their new and positive passion for life. – We do not want to become a dictatorship although we do understand the  concerns raised.

We do not judge someone for their past, but only for their future.

Yours passionately

Kay Penney for and on behalf of the

2012 Miss Pole dance UK National Championships Mr Pole fitness UK

Sarah Scott, Bendy Kate and Nico Modestine, The 8th Miss Pole Dance UK Fitness and Dance championships was held on the 2nd June in Brighton where three amazing championships showcased their skill and athleticism of the most talented pole dance performers in the UK
Sarah Scott taking the new crown of Miss Pole Dance UK female champion amongst 12  finalists
Sarah & Bendy Kate taking the Doubles category
Nico Modestine only 6 months into pole took the Mr Pole Fitness UK title

At 3pm the males lead the day with  the  Mr Pole Fitness UK Championship following on from that at 4pm followed Miss Pole Dance UK doubles category to culminate in the  finale of Miss Pole Dance UK professional category female singles category.  These competitions were not possible without the amazing contribution of the international judges this year who supported the UK competitors

Headed by founder Kay Penney, all three competitions were over looked by Kay herself. Kay still as passionate to select professional and friendly ambassadors to represent what she has worked so hard for over the last 10 years, representing pole artistry, educating and promoting the talented and ambitious to fly the flag of this still relatively new form of dance and fitness - over the years Kay is excited to see the stigma decrease year by year - as her message was simple back in 2005 - providing a stage where the performers could showcase their art and passion without the fear of being wrongly judged - and with the increase of national support with the winners of this prestigious national championship focusing on this gallant task - for all the competitors it not just about the 5 minutes they get to perform it becomes their life, their dedicated religion and art.

International judge Alma Pirner, who has become a very dear friend who supports us in the UK and internationally too.Alma is the organiser of the Hungarian Miss Pole Dance National championships since 2005 who is also the owner  and creator of the first Pole fitness company in Hungary, performer and instructor at dollhouse aerial studio in Budapest,  next on the judging panel was Akos, partner of Alma who is an accomplished teacher in fitness and pole fitness and is the envy of many a male pole fitness instructor, he has a very active role and supports dollhouse and the national pole dance championships in Budapest and was co host with Alma last year at the World Pole Dance  - World Pole Sport & Fitness Championships last October in Budapest

Bailey Hart
All the way from Australia - trained at Bobbies Pole Studio, and currently teaches at  Suzie Q's
Bailey is a unique pole dancer in that she is continuously growing and diversifying,  exploring new entertaining and sometimes abstract performances.

Luxe L'etoile
Luxe is the consecutive Asia Pacific  - Classic Pole Dance Champion 2010 and 2011 and has performed internationally on stage with some of the world’s best  including world pole dance finalist Jenyne Buttefly, Natasha Wang, Duncan West and Chelle Hafner

Jess Leanna Norris.
This incredible lady at such a young age took the Miss Pole Dance UK professional winning title last year having waited patiently for almost 3 years as it was her ambition to enter this national championships at 18 years old – she is an inspiration and ambassador for the UK and pole fitness and dance in general who has an amazing company JLN, with wonderful staff and support from her students

Unfortunately
Deb Riley was not able to be with us  due to last minute unforeseen circumstances, neither world champion males finalist, Keem Martinez and Alesia Vazmitsel  - the current world champion

Our special  thanks go unquestionably to following sponsors who without their contribution and support the event would not be possible
This year’s amazing  sponsors

At this workshop, Dan will teach a number of tricks, spins and transitions. The workshop will be suitable for all levels of ability.

If you have never trained with a male pole fitness instructor I would highly recommend it - their strength is rarely matched by female instructors, which makes them excellent at spotting and assisting you into and out of those tricky moves!

Dan is an excellent instructor with a great sense of humour and fun, so every workshop with him is as enjoyable as it is informative.

The workshop costs £35 per person, £10 deposit required to book a place. Max of 6 poles in the class, we are aiming for two to a pole.

There is free parking at the venue.

Hope to see you there :-)
