What happens in a Pole Passion Wakefield Fitness Dance Class

No two classes are the same!

At each class will have a 5 -10 mins warm up on or off the pole

Then we work through a series of moves, tricks, spins, transitions, poses, flexibility stretches, progression stretches, and strength conditioning all ending in a relaxation session at the end

Some moves you’ll love

Some will challenge you

As everyone is different

Most people don’t have upper body strength when they come to pole so each week you will gain new strength  and flexibility and the beauty is you forget you’re exercising ( until the next day or so afterward)

Pole Dancing El Fegan from Northern Ireland is set to trek 28 peaks for Alzheimers Charity

So what do some extraordinary pole dancers do in their spare time ?

https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/el-fegan - share and donate

So this fabulous lady did a fabulous job organising the most recent All Ireland's Championships 2016 in Belfast over the weekend and I was pleased to find out that not only is she passionate about supporting charities every year, as we are at Pole Passion, she has chosen a charity that is close to my heart to as I have a close family member going through the mid stages of Alzheimers and understand the destruction it can have on family members and the affected people

Life changes quickly and adapting to such rapid challenges and changes can be hard for everyone involved so this is why we want to support El

El Fegan, the All Ireland Pole Championships Organiser is about to set off around Ireland summiting Ireland's county high points, consecutively, as part of a charity challenge for Alzheimer's
It will see her take on 28 peaks, travelling 1 day at a time from county to county, peaks less than 500m will be done in a 10kg weighted vest to make it a little more challenging.
People have covered the CHPs over the space of time, a few months, year(s) but not 26 consecutive days & for most of the way, alone!
Every year El organises different charity events for different causes & this year she has chosen this organisation because she has a few friends & family that have been affected by Alzheimer's

You may contact El by emailing us on

From Bella Monnery
1. How did you get into pole
I organised a party for my birthday…. I was looking for something a little different and fun!
It was so much fun, I started class’s the next week and fell in love with Pole Fitness.

2. Why pole and not the gym
I actually do both, and more.
Pole on it’s own is an amazing sport, that builds strength, flexibility, confidence and balance whilst learning a fun new skill.
I’ve belonged to the gym for a long time and still go 2 or 3 times a week.
I’ve been doing martial arts since 2001, specialising in Kick-boxing, training and instructing for many years now.
I have also trained in Boxing, K1, Chinese Boxing, MMA and Tae Kwondo. I enjoy running and challenging myself, and I have entered a few races now. My biggest being Tough Mudder last year.

Doing all this other training helped me progress quickly. I wanted to share this great sport and encourage others to take up Pole Fitness. So I took the foundation training in 2013, Advanced training in 2014 and began teaching and have never looked back!

3. What’s your favourite move
I have many, but I do enjoy the splits moves so Russian Splits is at the top!

4. Sexy or fitness or both?
Fitness, I love all the strength and flexibility moves.
Since joining the pole Passion team, my love of the sport has grown even more.

I Regularly help at the Miss Pole Dance UK competitions and love attending and teaching at Pole Passions week long,  Budapest Pole training Retreat every year.

Pole Passion Instructors are friendly, passionate, approachable and fully qualified to advanced teacher training standards and receive ongoing instructor training and support to keep class content fresh and safe.
Instructors are fully insured to teach pole fitness and first aid trained.

FOUR WAYS FOR POLE INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COURSE SUCCESS www.polepassion.com

FOUR WAYS FOR POLE  INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COURSE SUCCESS

MANAGE YOUR TIME WISELY
Whether you have chosen to invest in a course you attend in person or whether you have opted for online home study package make sure you have allowed enough preparations and study time of the materials supplied
This of course will vary from person to person but by a guide allow minimum 16 hours study.  Of course your learning never stops but initially before the exam allow this time  minimum to prepare for your course.
Map out how many hours you can commit to your studies each week, and write on a calendar or journal what you actually plan to accomplish. Be realistic. And remember that you’re more likely to meet your goals if you write them down. Do not feel defeated if you are not able to study for hours on end. Whether you dedicate one to two hours, or 30 minutes daily to your studies, make the most of that time.

STUDYING THE CONTENT
Allow time to read and practice the moves for yourself
Then allow additional time in focusing on the words that you will be using whilst teaching
This for many this is the hardest part of transitioning from student to instructor status using the correct terminology including the muscle names correctly

USE YOUR RESOURCES
We all learn differently. Whether you are a visual, auditory or tactile/kinaesthetic learner, there is something for everyone. Recognize your personal learning style and use it to your advantage. This we cover on the courses too.  Use the social media YouTube and visual aids to learn to break down the moves and combinations paying particular attending to and feet body alignments and head positions in all the moves you seen – begin to break down the technicalities of the moves too

ASK FOR HELP
This is so important. No one knows everything, and we are all constantly learning in this relatively new concept of exercise, so please do not be afraid to ask for assistance. Trying to navigate through this experience can be daunting, especially if this is a new career for you. Remember that you have support throughout your course process, and even after you are a certified pole fitness professional. Our trainers assessors and course staff are dedicated to helping you achieve success, so make the most of our expertise and experience and we look forward to supporting you as long as you need us.

How to create your perfect Pole Passion Grading Routine - www.polepassion.com choreography

How to create your perfect Pole Passion Grading Routine

Combining your moves into a routine is a skill, it’s choreography and this sometimes doesn’t come naturally to everyone.  So if  even the thought of choreographing a routine frightens you then ask for help. It may not be as daunting as you think when it broken down as below

1. KNOW YOUR MOVES

Make sure you know your syllabus well and the names of all the moves
You should have been practicing these moves lots in your class
Remember you can not do a move higher than your level – this is always challenging if you have been poling a long while but only new to the grading routines

2. MUSIC

Think about your music carefully – Feel it from within
It certainly shows if you don't - if in any doubt don't use it. It's not the right choice of music if you have doubts - and never let someone else pick your music (it's ok that they help and advise, but ultimately it's your choice)
This can take a while for many people even the professionals!! So give yourself plenty of time
Down load it to your phone or iPod ideally and again make sure this is done well in advance of the grading day

3. YOUR ROUTINE

Think about your linking moves and style, the filler moves and even some floor work!  -  Good routines are made up of many different elements
It's not just about the tricks tricks tricks so concentrate on those linking transitions too. Transitions in, out, around, up, down and from pole to pole is
Just as important as your tricks !
Count in 4’S and 8’s in time to the music, the beat and the flow – you can even choreograph to the words too. Try printing out the lyrics of your song then write next to the words what moves you are going to do so its more methodical
You can even draw pictures using stick men or symbols, if words don’t work for you

4. CLOTHING

As crazy as it sounds do spend some time on this – At the grading you can only use fitness clothing but it has to fit well and you need to feel 100% comfortable wearing it and make sure its ready two days before so there is no mad last minute panics

5. RELAX

This is easier than it sounds I know.
Enjoying your performance is easier said than done But it is really over so quickly - if your routine or 'story' doesn't warrant a smile then please add one in at the end of your performance  - when you bow and say your 'thank you's for watching'
So many performers and competitors show their nerves, and not their passion for dance and the pole - The assessors and audience need to be wowed within the first 15 seconds of  your performance if possible !!

6. POSTURE & ALIGNMENT

This one you will know!!
But please if this is a problem of yours, say it over and over again in your head during your routine -
'POINT YOUR TOES Extend your limbs' including concentrate on your fingers too!!

7.  FLEXIBILITY & STRETCH

Focus on your flexibility  - This is such an important part  of modern pole routines. This means correct preparation warm ups and cool downs, not only on the day of the completion but the weeks before and weeks after!
You should be allowing at least 20 minutes preparation stretch before it's your turn on the poles (many of the champions will be warming and stretching for 2 hours prior!!)

8. EMOTION & EYE CONTACT

Engage with your audience and assessors if possible
This is simple and can be done with eye contact, facial expressions and hands reaching towards them pulling them back into your body and your performance and emotion!!!

9. CONTROL YOUR BREATHING

Breathe!
An excellent performance not only leaves the performer breathless but the assessors AND  audience too
Give all the power and energy you have got even on the shorter routines too

10. ATTENTION TO DETAIL

It's the little details that matter too
Practice and get someone truthful to critique your performance - get them to find 10 things for you to improve on !

11. MINDSET

Have fun and look at it as a performance not a grading
Most importantly remember the qualities of an excellent performer are very different to that of an excellent instructor or student
The skills and mindset are very different, MEDITATION AND VISUALISATION ARE EXCELLENT preparation skills for a champion on the pole :)

12. MOST IMPORTANTLY

Check the website for the rules and guidelines of the music an length of your routines and if in doubt speak with your instructor  and ask lots of questions

Enjoy yourself, Meet new people, Be safe, Train Safe...remember every challenge is a growth step forward.

PRACTICE ~ PRACTICE ~ PRACTICE

Thank you for joining us at The Pole Passion Grading

Good Luck

Nadia Budurusi, Pioneering Pole Fitness in Romania connecting with Pole Passion UK

Nadia Budurusi – Leading and Pioneering Pole fitness in Romania

Nadia nervously opens her very first pole fitness school in Romania, worried that only her and her mother may attend

Having just completed the European Pole Sport and Fitness accreditation from Europe’s leading Pole Fitness and Pole Sport training provider Pole Passion – Nadia sets to change public perception in Romania

Nadia is the pioneer in Romania and was inspired by Kay Penney a leading pioneer in Europe for Pole Fitness. Kay also the founder of Pole Passion UK leading pole fitness sport and dance training provider approved by REP’s (Register Of Exercise Professionals), Miss Pole Dance UK – UK’s leading amateur and professional championships and owner and founder and Chairperson of World Pole Sport & Fitness Championships  - World Pole Dance the first World championships dedicated to the artistic interpretations of Pole Art and Dance

Nadia opened her first studio under the business guidance of Pole Passion at the beginning of July 2015 and is proud to network with Kay and her international team.   Nadia joined Pole Passion in the UK firstly in February 2015 and then she joined them again on their annual Pole Passion camp, which was hosted in Budapest at the Dollhouse Pole Fitness studio, in May. In 2009,  Kay also inspired  to promote and grow Pole fitness in Budapest Hungary with owner Alma Pirner, who also met Kay at the Instructor Training Certifications in the UK.

Nadia explains how difficult it is for her to promote and advertise her pole fitness lessons and states she feels so alone. She promoted to the University and at the metro as the national media was not interested

I interviewed Nadia who was currently working in her family circus

Nadia states she had lost motivation in the Circus  after a serious knee injury, then the birth of her daughter – she saw her friends playing around the pole and immediately loved what she saw, so she begun to search on the internet for more instruction. That’s when she said she found Pole Passion.

What was the biggest challenge when learning Pole – After a 5 year break having a baby and surgery on my injured knee the challenge was everything – from strength to pole technique. I realised I had lost everything, my flexibility , strength and motivation

What is your back ground – since the age of 5 years I have been a gymnast. My specialism was the straps with my brother and in 2001 we won awards in Montreal – in 2009 I started a circus school with my parents and brother and this year (2015) finally it will be accredited, which we are very happy and proud for this

Why do you think pole is so popular all over the world – the challenge on the pole is so vast and with it being such a spectator sport there is always something new to learn and challenge yourself with

What does Pole dancing mean in your life now – It’s a way of life and brings a whole new meaning to it. I don’t imagine my life without a pole, I love it, My mother loves it, my students from the circus love  it  – you can bring it home and you can redecorate your house so therefore it is really fantastic

What is the difference between pole dance / pole sport / and pole fitness
For me there are many differences – first must come the pole fitness, learning the moves, tricks and techniques,  then you must introduce the dance, the choreography linking the moves together and then if you are really really good you can then introduce the sport of an athlete or gymnast. The rules are more comprehensive in the Pole Sport, but for me I personally love the pole dance where I can express myself with the art and flow of the choreography and make a show

How do you see pole dancing in the future – I believe the people in Romania will go shopping for poles, pole will be in every household – I am currently redecorating my home to incorporate a pole in my living room. My friends will come and try it and I know they will like it.

Do you think it will be popular for the men in Romania too – Yes I am very sure they will want to prove they are strong and flexible. Pole can be done in so many different styles this is why it is for everybody, so yes pole will be popular for men too

Do you think this is just a fashion or will it last longer – To work on the pole it is a challenge, you constantly want to go to the next level – it’s not a fashion it is a sport it will last a long time

Tell me more about the opinion in Romania from the people - Well first of all I talk about pole fitness and pole dance – not the striptease   I have to fight about explaining about the beauty of pole fitness – this is not a joke we are about 20 years behind most of Europe and the UK – the pole gives you freedom, if you want to wears shoes you can – it is fantastic and the best way to be free – I use the words pole fitness so the public are not going to be scared !

I am so happy that I found Pole Passion and will continue to work along side them to support and educate the people of Romania
