From Bella Monnery
1. How did you get into pole
I organised a party for my birthday…. I was looking for something a little different and fun!
It was so much fun, I started class’s the next week and fell in love with Pole Fitness.
2. Why pole and not the gym
I actually do both, and more.
Pole on it’s own is an amazing sport, that builds strength, flexibility, confidence and balance whilst learning a fun new skill.
I’ve belonged to the gym for a long time and still go 2 or 3 times a week.
I’ve been doing martial arts since 2001, specialising in Kick-boxing, training and instructing for many years now.
I have also trained in Boxing, K1, Chinese Boxing, MMA and Tae Kwondo. I enjoy running and challenging myself, and I have entered a few races now. My biggest being Tough Mudder last year.
Doing all this other training helped me progress quickly. I wanted to share this great sport and encourage others to take up Pole Fitness. So I took the foundation training in 2013, Advanced training in 2014 and began teaching and have never looked back!
3. What’s your favourite move
I have many, but I do enjoy the splits moves so Russian Splits is at the top!
4. Sexy or fitness or both?
Fitness, I love all the strength and flexibility moves.
Since joining the pole Passion team, my love of the sport has grown even more.
I Regularly help at the Miss Pole Dance UK competitions and love attending and teaching at Pole Passions week long, Budapest Pole training Retreat every year.
Pole Passion Instructors are friendly, passionate, approachable and fully qualified to advanced teacher training standards and receive ongoing instructor training and support to keep class content fresh and safe.
Instructors are fully insured to teach pole fitness and first aid trained.

Pole Dancer, Pole Dance, Pole Fitness, Pole Sport - what's the difference?
So I asked a few people in the Pole Industry
What is the difference to you, between Pole Fitness, Pole Dance & Pole Sport
BECKY MacPherson – PolePassion Oxted
Pole Fitness- I see pole fitness as a series of spins, tricks and transitions on and around the pole to build strength, co-ordination, flexibility and balance.
Pole Dance - Pole dance to me is about linking all the moves fluidly in a routine, incorporating more poses and floor work and done to music. Pole dance can be done to any type off music and incorporate other styles of dance, Pole dance is very individual and a great way of expressing your emotions.
Pole Sport - I've never really thought what pole sport means to me. I'd say it's more the competitive side of pole, individuals train to compete rather than as a hobby/fitness.
KARLA McCarthy – Pole Passion Chichester
For me pole dance is more about the artistry of pole. Dance styles around the pole maybe incorporating more flow than tricks.
Pole fitness is about learning something more gymnastic based and pole sport is the competitive edge of pole.
People who compete for titles do pole sport for example. However, I do consider pole fitness a sport too just not done at a competitive level.
It is accessible to all.
LUIS John – Pole Passion Brighton
I believe the difference between pole sport, pole dancing and pole fitness is the way in which I may relay my interest to another person to buffer for any stigmatism that may unfortunately still be attached to everything pole.
Of course, pole is becoming a lot more widely accepted now thanks to the likes of strong individuals setting pace and media platforms showcasing their amazing talents. But, we all still carry some hesitant back foot, get out of jail card excuse when someone asks why pole?!
Yes, to get fit, to increase self confidence and well being and of course for the fun factor!
I do it because I can! Being a young heterosexual male I wouldn't describe my interest as pole dancing but pole fitness because I don't appreciate the remarks I get when ill-educated people, jump on the same stereotypical train that's been doing it's rounds for years and will continuously do so for many more.
A recent picture seen on one of my social media sites sparked a colleague of mine to make a remark not so long ago.
This colleague is a gym going, masculine man carrying out a job which requires him to be intimidating and forceful, which he does very well. When referring to a recent picture of mine in a shoulder mount he asks questions along the lines of... "Are you gay?" "Isn't that for girls?" "Why would you?"...
I simply answered
"because I CAN"
Who cares what sexuality you are?!
What you do for a living?!
Who cares what anyone else thinks?!
Pole doesn't!
Nadia – Romania
For me pole fitness must come first – learning the tricks and moves then must follow the dance
Pole Dance a set of moves tricks spins all set to music to create a performance then if the student wishes they can then compete in the pole sport
For me the pole dance is more artistic and a way to express yourself and tell your story with the help of the music.
Pole Fitness – moves, tricks, spins, transitions, poses incorporating floor work stretch flexibility coordination balance poise grace beauty, confidence empowerment fitness and fun
Pole Dance is all the above incorporating cardio vascular and aerobic sequences, set to music to create a choreographed well-rehearsed routine and is usually done in front of an audience
Pole Sport –is a competitive genre of pole dance, usually with strict rules and regulations attached to it. Pole sport can be demonstrated in many ways depending on the rules of the event
Pole Dance, Fitness and Sport all originated from the exotic dancers of gentleman’s clubs as many of the pioneers around the world originated from their adapting and transforming the new moves of today.
First came the Pole Dance (Pole Passion 2001), then the pole fitness (Pole Passion 2006 REP’s Accredited Instructor Training ) then the pole sport (World Pole Sport & Fitness 2009)

Nadia Budurusi, Pioneering Pole Fitness in Romania connecting with Pole Passion UK
Nadia Budurusi – Leading and Pioneering Pole fitness in Romania
Nadia nervously opens her very first pole fitness school in Romania, worried that only her and her mother may attend
Having just completed the European Pole Sport and Fitness accreditation from Europe’s leading Pole Fitness and Pole Sport training provider Pole Passion – Nadia sets to change public perception in Romania
Nadia is the pioneer in Romania and was inspired by Kay Penney a leading pioneer in Europe for Pole Fitness. Kay also the founder of Pole Passion UK leading pole fitness sport and dance training provider approved by REP’s (Register Of Exercise Professionals), Miss Pole Dance UK – UK’s leading amateur and professional championships and owner and founder and Chairperson of World Pole Sport & Fitness Championships - World Pole Dance the first World championships dedicated to the artistic interpretations of Pole Art and Dance
Nadia opened her first studio under the business guidance of Pole Passion at the beginning of July 2015 and is proud to network with Kay and her international team. Nadia joined Pole Passion in the UK firstly in February 2015 and then she joined them again on their annual Pole Passion camp, which was hosted in Budapest at the Dollhouse Pole Fitness studio, in May. In 2009, Kay also inspired to promote and grow Pole fitness in Budapest Hungary with owner Alma Pirner, who also met Kay at the Instructor Training Certifications in the UK.
Nadia explains how difficult it is for her to promote and advertise her pole fitness lessons and states she feels so alone. She promoted to the University and at the metro as the national media was not interested
I interviewed Nadia who was currently working in her family circus
Nadia states she had lost motivation in the Circus after a serious knee injury, then the birth of her daughter – she saw her friends playing around the pole and immediately loved what she saw, so she begun to search on the internet for more instruction. That’s when she said she found Pole Passion.
What was the biggest challenge when learning Pole – After a 5 year break having a baby and surgery on my injured knee the challenge was everything – from strength to pole technique. I realised I had lost everything, my flexibility , strength and motivation
What is your back ground – since the age of 5 years I have been a gymnast. My specialism was the straps with my brother and in 2001 we won awards in Montreal – in 2009 I started a circus school with my parents and brother and this year (2015) finally it will be accredited, which we are very happy and proud for this
Why do you think pole is so popular all over the world – the challenge on the pole is so vast and with it being such a spectator sport there is always something new to learn and challenge yourself with
What does Pole dancing mean in your life now – It’s a way of life and brings a whole new meaning to it. I don’t imagine my life without a pole, I love it, My mother loves it, my students from the circus love it – you can bring it home and you can redecorate your house so therefore it is really fantastic
What is the difference between pole dance / pole sport / and pole fitness
For me there are many differences – first must come the pole fitness, learning the moves, tricks and techniques, then you must introduce the dance, the choreography linking the moves together and then if you are really really good you can then introduce the sport of an athlete or gymnast. The rules are more comprehensive in the Pole Sport, but for me I personally love the pole dance where I can express myself with the art and flow of the choreography and make a show
How do you see pole dancing in the future – I believe the people in Romania will go shopping for poles, pole will be in every household – I am currently redecorating my home to incorporate a pole in my living room. My friends will come and try it and I know they will like it.
Do you think it will be popular for the men in Romania too – Yes I am very sure they will want to prove they are strong and flexible. Pole can be done in so many different styles this is why it is for everybody, so yes pole will be popular for men too
Do you think this is just a fashion or will it last longer – To work on the pole it is a challenge, you constantly want to go to the next level – it’s not a fashion it is a sport it will last a long time
Tell me more about the opinion in Romania from the people - Well first of all I talk about pole fitness and pole dance – not the striptease I have to fight about explaining about the beauty of pole fitness – this is not a joke we are about 20 years behind most of Europe and the UK – the pole gives you freedom, if you want to wears shoes you can – it is fantastic and the best way to be free – I use the words pole fitness so the public are not going to be scared !
I am so happy that I found Pole Passion and will continue to work along side them to support and educate the people of Romania

Why I Love Pole testimonials from Pole Passion Pole Fitness Classes
Debbie Nichols Pole Passion Crawley Worth
I
enjoy Jana's Crawley Worth class. Jana's warm up's and down are different
to any other I have done in many a long year. Dance intensive and
fun......and exhausting! Jana also treats each person individually and
tries to build up their weaknesses by working on combo's.
....and
here is the poem. All points I made in it still stand (and I am still
working on some of the moves I couldn't do then !!!)
Why I Love Pole
“Why do you love pole”? I was asked today
How to put it in words, what to say?
Is it the challenge that brings me back week after
week?
The great sense of achievement that I seek
By finally getting that evasive move?
Is it because to myself I am trying to prove
I’m not old, I’m not knackered?– Look what I can do
And if I can do this I’m sure you can too
The bruises we wear with pride – call them pole
kisses
They show how we’ve tried. Let me tell you
that this is
The fittest and strongest that I’ve ever been
Me upside down on a pole to believe must be seen
Not to mention the friendships, advice and support
From all other polers enjoying the sport
It may take me months to achieve one position
But I don’t need a psychiatrist or a physician
I believe in myself now – for the first time.
You see
That’s why I love pole, that’s what pole’s done for
me
My pole experience.
When I first started pole I was like the little caterpillar you said. I was shy, body conscious, quiet, and dealing with stress and anxiety disorder from a hard personal life. After meeting some beautiful kind caring people who I now call my friend I am a true butterfly like I aimed to me. I'm happy, so confident, feel good about myself an addicted to pole Where it distresses me and allows me I just be me in my own world of pole. Everyone in the pole passion team are awesome at what they do and truly make the class an amazing experience which I would recommend to everyone :-).
Kirsty Seymour Pole Passion Worth
So why after 4 months am I still doing pole? Because it’s great at every stage from learning your first fireman spin to learning to invert- there is always something new to work on a new way to progress and develop your skills. Most importantly the teachers are amazing so supportive and they even create individual plans for everyone in the class. It’s been awesome and I can only see it getting better :-) Just want to say a massive thank you Tamara for all your support and guidance :-)

Bella Monnery Pole Passion Shoreham-by-Sea, Worthing www.polepassion.com
Pole Passion’s newest recruit and fitness expert Bella Monnery is more than sexy
hip swirls and happy hip shakes!!
Fitness preparation and training for tough mudder 2014
For over 3hours a week of pole, Bella is using her pole techniques for
training for one of the hardest and most gruelling and physically challenging courses
on the planet.
She will be using the pole techniques for upper body strength to get her
up the ropes, over the walls and across the monkey bars.
Her Kickboxing and cardio classes for fitness and strength.
Her Gym sessions, and at least 2 runs a week. 1 long distance, 9 miles
plus, 1 hill run.
Bella commented, ‘ I actually love all the training :) I remember
when I first started running, 1 mile was hard! It's amazing to see
yourself get stronger and faster, it's a great feeling of achieving.
The hardest thing is finding the time lol I drag my dogs along for some
of the runs.. We go in the rivers together too!
My biggest fear.....
Hmmm, there are a few!
Electric shocks and ice cold water is what I'm dreading most!
My reasons for entering....
I'm probably a little mad lol
But, I love a challenge :)
I entered a few smaller obstacle courses last year.... Now I want to go
for the big one!!
Yes this is a big challenge! But I know I will love every minute :)’
London South is Europe’s most gruelling Tough Mudder event! Set in acres
of barren jagged farm land and hills, not to mention all the obstacles
designed by the special forces, mud and water!!
