A Workshop with this amazing duo was an opportunity not to be missed recently on 29th April 2012

Headed by advanced instructor Sue Thompson at Pole Passion Bognor

The workshop was ideal for doubles pole partnerships wishing to perform,  compete or just have fun trying new inventive doubles tricks on and around the pole. In this workshop held recently at the Arun Leisure Centre the World Pole Dance 2011  Doubles Runners up - Bendy and Kate  covered their unique acro balances on the floor which stemmed from Bendy’s acrobatic background. They also showed interesting ways onto and off of the pole (using  doubles partners of course!)

They demonstrated their signature doubles tricks which helped them win Miss Pole Dance UK Doubles in 2011 and secured their place in World Pole Dance last year in Budapest www.worldpoledance.com

To top their afternoon session they  finished with fun doubles conditioning exercises and partner assisted stretching to improve  strength and flexibility  creating more for more doubles fun.

The class was aimed at all levels of fitness

Synchronised doubles NEW category for world Pole Dance championships 2011

An incredible opening show from the Japanese male and female doubles wearing white costumes, demonstrating incredible spinning routines from one hand, where Masayo was suspended in the air with the palm of Kasuya's hand.
Next up was Kate and Kate from the UK with their fun suspensions and jokey performance using innovative combinations and mime suspensions from the neck creating a powerful performance. Barbara and Ilka from Hungary danced to Tears of a Dragon, a risk of a song as former world champion Felix Cane also used that song in her championship performance, they partnered shoulder to shoulder with incredible balance, both with equal strength and being flyers throughout their routine with creative new shapes, beautiful creativity and a perfect performance winning them first prize.
Cecilia and Ana from Argentina wearing a silver costume both red and white, had dramatic and moody music demonstrating suspensions away from the pole. They started in 2010 for fun and with hard training created their routine together.
The fifth competitors Michelle and Matty a mixed double had a superb acro balance beginning with incredible strength from both competitors melting and merging as one they have only been performing for 6 months together.
Last up was the Russian couple Olga and Valentina which had an operatic feel and movement to their presentation winning the best costume award for their category.

They started training for doubles a year ago for their pole school - Spin City's 2nd Birthday Party and since then have brought a unique, acrobatic style to doubles pole performances. Bendy acts as the flyer in the partnership due to her acrobatic background where as Kate is the base and holds herself and Bendy with phenomenal strength. Bendy is 21 and has been poling for just under 2 years, Kate who has just turned 29 has been poling for 5 years. For Kate and Bendy doubles pole has been an opportunity for Bendy to relive her acrobatic days and Kate has had the opportunity to develop new moves and challenge herself as a choreographer!

They have also developed a unique friendship and trust since becoming a partnership last year. This is Kate's last doubles performance so this is a very special competition for them and they hope to go out in spectacular style!

Miss Pole Dance Hungary 2011 winner Barbara Palmatty

Saturday showed Hungary’s most spectacular performers demonstrating Pole Fitness in the glamour and fitness categories at the Club Prestige in Budapest Hungary

12 contestants demonstrated the flexibility and control of athletes and gymnastic elements of the performances with spectacular costumes and pole presentations

Some candidates had only poled for 8 months but many also poling for several years.

‘When I was invited for the first time three years ago I had noticed a significant increase in the skills during the competition this year with more use of the floor, more advanced tricks and combinations and with this year’s winner Barbara Palmatty producing a beautifully choreographed performance, what was really exciting for the sport is that the chief of aerial acrobatics Association Tunde Vincze and Sandor Altorjai, the head of the gymnastic Association of Budapest was also endorsing the championships and presenting the prizes - Sandor himself an Olympic competitor in gymnastics.' commented Kay Penney - International & United Kingdom Judge and main organiser of the World Pole Dance championships.

Second place was awarded to Ilka Bardoczy with third place going to Eva Molvar

doubles section in 2011 at Budapest this year for the first time – World Pole Dance on October 1st 2011 at Budaorsi Varosi Sportcsarnok starting for 4pm also show casing will be the World Pole Dance Men division and female singles division

Synchronised Doubles in the World Pole Sport & Fitness Championships 2011 for the first time

Reasons for the different diameter sizes of poles in the World Pole Sport & Fitness Championships


As an organisation we have to work with the logistics of the stage and organising many separate competitions on the same afternoon without time to change the poles.

The singles category in the championships is carried out on 1 x 38mm spinning Rpole and 1 x 50mm static Rpole to show versatility and multiple skill and techniques of both a static pole and spinning pole and not favouring one country over another who may just work off spinning poles or static poles. The diameter size of the poles is at both spectrums to create a more fair approach.

For the synchronicity element of the doubles category we have to choose either both static or both spinning - As the doubles category is new this year we have chosen 2 x static poles which is what the majority of most countries use at this time.

We apologise to those countries who are only working off only spinning poles and appreciate that by choosing both static poles for the doubles category, this does limit moves and combinations which you may very well be used to if you are using only a spinning pole.
We can state however most combinations used on a spinning pole can be adapted to a static pole

To be a world champion it is important that you have the versatility to be able to perform off any pole – both static and spinning poles, however we fully understand this may not accommodate everyone’s style and preference at this time.

In the world championships we are now working with over 30 countries and each country has a different type of pole they train from, some have 38mm some have 45mm and some have 50mm
To be fair we must incorporate more than one diameter size pole in the championships as this accommodates those pole tricks and moves carried out by a pair who is executing their performance move from one pole and by having two different sizes accommodates more countries.
