Nadia Budurusi - Romania and Kay Penney Pole Passion UK join incredible forces - World Pole Dance Sport & Fitness 2016

Nadia Budurusi, Pole Passion & Miss Pole Dance UK Creator, Kay Penney are set to revolutionise the World Of Pole Dance & Fitness in Bucharest, Romania

The Inaugural Miss Pole Dance Romania is being organised by the duo, for 10th September 2016.
Kay has been successfully running and organising Miss Pole Dance UK since 2005 and has always lead the nations pole competition arena
All winners are automatically chosen to represent their country in the
World Pole Dance Championships also to be held in Romania this year with a date now confirmed as 16th September 2016.

Nadia and Kay have been working closely together for over two years to make their dream a reality

Nadia was the perfect choice for her international business partner this year as seen below by Nadia's extensive biography

I have been on stage since I was 2 years old and my parents have and still are my coaches. I have always been inspired by them while watching them being part of the Romanian National Gymnastic Team and winning all the titles available. Once their Gymnastics' careers came to an end their life didn't stop there and they begun to dedicate their passion for dance and performance to the circus world. My father is the second person in the world to have executed the triple on flaying trapeze and my mother has never found a rival on the trapeze
I was up on the trapeze for the first time very soon after my 10th birthday. It was then when I started training with my brother and became a force on stage as a doubles' team performing aerials and hoops' acts.
Moving forward, 10 years after my first trapeze performance, I won the first Title for Excellence in Circus at the Monte Carlo Circus Festival, Rome Circus Festival, and won the bronze medal at the Dax Circus Festival.
Apart from circus, I also spent many hours in the dance studios, performing most styles from Latin Americans to Waltz and I am happy to share with you today that I am the winner of one Viennese Waltz International Dance Competition
By now you must be wondering if I have ever gone to school. The answer is yes and I didn't just limit my studies to GCSE level but joined The Academy of Arts in Bucharest Romania where I graduated the faculty of Film Making which helps me tremendously in creating my own choreography for my shows.
6 years ago and together with my family,  I  opened the doors to the first Circus School in Romania where my parents are still coaching the future generation of stage artists.
I did take a break from the spot light, for 5 years, to start a family but also to repair a few body parts following a few accidents in training but 5 years on it was too long for a pause for someone so active so this year I decided to return to the stage and the spotlight
After watching a few circus artists  performing pole dancing acts, I was hooked to the pole and almost immediately I started searching online where I could get more information and also I wanted to have my own pole and start training as soon as possible.
This is how I came across Pole Passion and a new chapter of my life began.
I am currently the only accredited pole fitness instructor in Romania and I must confess it is not easy at all. The Romanian society is very sceptical to what pole fitness actually means but I will never give up.
I am looking forward to organising the first Miss Pole Dance Romania in 2016.
I am absolutely certain that the help and support offered by Kay Penney and her team will make my dream a reality.

Kay Penney Pole Passion UK interview – from Alma Pirner - Hungary July 2015

How and when did you start the Pole dance business?

I started to lay the foundations of Pole Passion in 2001 in the UK, there were only a handful of people exploring pole fitness.  It was soon after my third child was born. I started as a hobby wanting to get fit again after the birth of my son, I was in search of something more exciting than the gym and more challenging than my normal routines of fitness

What was the biggest challenge?

Changing public perception. I identified quite quickly with the right marketing and education, pole fitness could be accepted by the masses by staying focused with so many ideas buzzing around – It was hard to keep focused and following through with one idea before moving on to the next. This new exercise and dance was addictive, challenging, exciting and for me pioneering it in the UK was so much fun

What do you feel the biggest success in this business?

Love and connection from so many people now around the world all sharing the same ideas and love, passion and enthused with the passion around the pole – I have made the biggest family I could ever wish for and providing a worlds stage was my biggest ambition – a platform where the performer would not be judged wrongly, where they would receive the credibility and recognition they deserve in  a professional environment

Why it's so popular all around the World, what do you think?

Because pole, no matter how it is portrayed, fulfils so many desires and connects people in such a positive way
The love of challenge, variety and contribution
Growth and significance all positive human needs

Tell me the story of Pole Passion and World Pole dance?

It slowly happened over time encourage by my husband Steve as he saw my potential as a leader of like minded people
I was passionate to make a difference to peoples lives, I wasnt sure how i was going to do this but Steve saw my strength and leadership more than I ever did.
Pole Passion grew from a personal hobby encouraged by my close friends, from close friends, who told their friends, who told their friends I soon became well known. I got so busy I had to take on instructors to help with the demand for my lessons. I then became quite ill (cancer in fact) for me this was the turning point, not actually knowing if I would be alive in 6 months I decided to document all my teachings.

I started to name my moves and document my lesson plans. 18 months later I became well always striving for that next move, whilst actually being incredibly poorly – pole kept me alive and focused me in a positive manner
In 2005 I had created a national championships, Miss Pole Dance UK, for me this was about educating the masses and the champions were urging me to create the next level for them after a few years waiting, I decided to create the first World championships, not actually knowing who in the world would attend !!  or even if I had the time to plan it  - It was all a gamble but it paid off, the market was bigger than I really believed at the time

What does pole dancing mean in your life?

It has become my life
Its what I wake up for
Its what I fall asleep thinking about every night
The people I connect with and the places I visit all have a connection to the pole
I now can’t see a life without the pole

Who’s are the greatest and most prominent pole dancers in the World who did most for this business's popularity?

There are so many and each person who I have met along the way has each contributed to the growth of the industry
From Sheila Kelly to Fawnia Dietritch, my two training  inspirations in early 2000 to the pioneers in each country I have the privilege in teaching and sharing knowledge with
Pantera USA 2006,
Alma Pirner Budapest 2008,
Anastaisia  Russia, 2009
Keem Martinez  2009 Mr Pole Fitness, France ,
Elena Shishkova Russia 2009,
Jeneyne Butterfly USA 2009,
Felix Cane Australia 2009,
Alesica Vazmitsel UK/ Belarus 2009,
All the contestant of the first world championships for sport and fitness dance and art to the present day competitors who are the continuing future of our industry

What's the difference between pole dance and pole fitness/pole sport?
For me there are very clear differences

In Pole Passion we all start with the pole fitness – this is a new sport, and exercise programme, only being created in the UK in 2006 – as a series of moves, tricks, spins, poses and transitions a work out on and around the pole incorporating floor work, stretch, flexibility, core work outs, conditioning moves for fun and fitness – In Pole Passion I have also  created have a grading system whereby students and instructors can reach certain levels of expertise by the way of an assessment process

Pole Dance – is a series of set choreography moves, set to music to create a pole show enabling the performer to express themselves through movements on and around the pole, being free to tell their story

And finally comes the Pole Sport – a series of gymnastic, and athletic moves and set sequences including routines and combinations with a more ridged formulae to technique

What do you think pole dancing is so seductive for men?

I believe pole dancing is seductive for both men and women who appreciate the beautiful form of a woman’s and man’s body, demonstrating the athleticism and wonders of the human body can achieve, defying gravity creating shapes in such a mesmerising and super human way. For me pole dancing incorporates strength inside and out as it is much harder to achieve than it looks
my motto being empowerment confidence fitness & FUN!

How do you see pole dancing in the future?

I see the pole dancing spreading everywhere, from gym to gym to park to beach from village hall to the front room – pole dancing is an activity that has no boundaries or prejudices, discriminations to age, gender or physical ability
I have witnessed the blind and deaf, the young the old, the disabled and the ill move beautifully and creatively around the pole – for me there are no boundaries for the pole –– we have taken it to the highest mountain in the UK, we have taken the pole in the sea, we have taken it to beaches parks and roads -  let’s not stifle the creativity and possibilities of pole

Do you think it's just a fashion, or it will last longer?

For me a fashion is something that only has a season or two – Pole has been around for me for 15 years therefore no this is not a fashion I believe we are still learning and developing the industry and there is so much more to come

Tell me more about the UK pole dancers, and people's opinion about?

Over the years the barriers are changing, initially 30 year old women, age bracket was only interested in pole then suddenly 5 years later the 20 years were interested, now all ages, young and old, men and women are interested. The media has helped, the facebook community has helped to educate the naïve – people opinions are changing for the positive and will continue to do so. The level of professionalism has increased and education has progresses and I believe we still have exciting times ahead

Galina Musina - world Pole Dance Champion 2015 China Beijing

Hello Kay!  Thank you very much for your congratulations - it's a great honour for me.
I'm happy to answer your questions!

1. Winning this competition means a dream came true. I was focused on a successful performance on this championship,  all that was on my mind was my routine,  and all that I was doing this past months was targeted for the world championship. I am so happy that I placed first,  it means that all happened in the right place at the right time for me.

2. I am scared to look courageous but I seriously was travelling for this competition with a big hope to win. I knew that all the competitors are super talented and strong athletes but it's all about being confident in yourself and in your success.

3. The hardest part for me was to fight the fear right before going on stage, focusing yourself into the right mood and giving all of yourself emotionally on stage. I wanted all the audience to smile while watching my performance. I wanted to send my positive vibes to everyone present. I hope I succeeded with that.

4. In my plans for the near future is to finish university with excellence. but whatever has to do with pole dance,  I am travelling for workshops around Russia. There are interesting prepositions about working abroad. During summer I shall be working in pole camps. Of course I will continue to thrive in pole dance and create unique performances for competitions and showcases.

5. My next step is to thrive as a performer and create a programme of successful workshops  and maybe some day open up my own dance studio.

Dimitry Politov - Russia World Pole Dance Champion 2015 Males category

Congratulations Dimitry

What does this win mean to you?
Thank you! This win means alot for me, because I proved to my colleagues that you don't have to be a gymnast or ballet dancer to win a World Pole Dance and Sport Championships

Were you in it to win it?
Not really, because I was afraid  that judges would not accept my style

What was the hardest thing performing in China?
The hardest thing was the duration of performance, I think I need to work on my cardio vascular

Where will you be in 1 years time?
I'm going to visit Latin America, Argentina, Chile, Columbia, Mexico, USA (if i get my visa), Great Britain, and lots of European countries)

visiting the United Kingdom for the Mr Pole Fitness UK Championships is exciting

What is your next step?
I don't make any global plans now, but i make step forward every day
Thank you

Kay Penney interview from Dani from Brazil April 2015 after World Pole Dance China

Interview Kay Penney founder Pole Passion 2001, Miss Pole Dance UK 2005, World Pole Dance 2009

Hi my friend!! It's me, Dani, from Brazil, with some questions: 20th April 2015

1 - How was the beginning in Pole Dance? when did you decide to do it?
A.    I first found pole dance at a social gathering, a  party, many many years ago. The very first time I had a go I immediately loved it – I was free and able to express myself, through dance and movement on an around the pole, dancing to the music and using the pole as my dance partner.
From the very first moment I was addicted and wanted to practice more.  At that time in 2001 there was no pole fitness, only exotic pole dancing in gentlemen’s clubs where women would dance for men. For me I danced for myself totally oblivious of onlookers. I could connect with the pole using it as a metaphor of strength, power and support, being able to block out my challenges of a young mother struggling to cope with three young children, feeling worthless, over weight and powerless.
Pole gave me an inner confidence that no other sport or dance gave me at that most vulnerable time of my life. At age 32 this was a changing moment in my life and I then started to receive private lessons for many months learning to become stronger on and around the pole.  As a former dancer and fitness enthusiast pole incorporated all the elements of excitement and challenge I was looking for at that time

2 -How is your day ? Always many things to do ?
A.    My day is extremely busy, yet my drie and ambition for the pole does not make this painful. I have now three grown beautiful children, Leanna aged 20, Alan aged 19 and Sam who is more dependent on me aged 14.  I focus on their self development and goal setting as well as my own
I work full time always pretending its part time but the hours I put into the business are long yet very rewarding. I now have a fabulous team of six office staff and over 36 Pole Passion instructors and apprentices who directly work under my guidelines and ethos as our business has developed so much over the last 15 years yet feel it is still in its infancy, with so much still to achieve, conquer and share world wide

3 - In your free time, what do you like to do ?
A.    My free time away from Pole Passion, Miss Pole Dance and World Pole Dance I love to go to the gym, I find stretching an excellent way to help with relaxation, keeping focused and flexible in and out of the office.  I love to socialise with my ‘non’ pole friends who keep me sane in this rapidly developing pole world.  Unfortunately they are proud to introduce me as a pole dancer!!  So do I ever get time away from Pole ?? – I love my family and love to travel and would love to visit the health spa and beaches for my free time where I feel the benefit of the sunshine and hands on massage. I love to learn and love people so naturally I study psychology, learning more and more about the human kind, what motivates people and what people really want in all cultures.  I love to travel and learn about different mindsets based on their beliefs and attitudes. I also like to watch crime investigation and detective  programmes

4 - How is the Pole Dance in England? Is it famous? tell me.
A.    Pole dancing for sport is developing very quickly in the UK. We accredited our teacher training programmes with the UK and European governments and exercise of fitness professionals in 2006 and now we are in very exciting times of innovation and pioneering pole fitness throughout the world – Pole Passion is leading this sport and artistry, with acknowledging both the sexy and fitness providing a professional training programme for all, progressing and adapting each step of the way.  This was a lengthy and painful process initially in the UK, with many professionals telling us it will never happen, that many gyms will not accept it and if they do, it will not last.  Always with the true belief it will last and that our training has all the components of fitness therefore we are true to the professional standards and our comprehensive  and varied programmes
The industry is growing very rapidly and each month we bring out new moves and new programmes to accommodate all

5 - Tell me more about World Pole Sport & Fitness - World Pole Dance.
A.    World Pole Dance was born in 2009, The industry was looking towards me to provide a professional platform to support National Pole Dance Champions, a place of progression and to further connect everyone world wide .  At the time there was no place for the National champions to go.  Following on many years of successful Miss Pole Dance UK and Miss Pole Dance Australia our two competitions were ruling and dominating the world at that time in the competition arena.  We Pole Passion (UK) & Bobbies studio (Australia)  Vanessa, Bobbie, Felix, Miss Poledance (Newzland)  Amy, Miss Pole Dance (Canada) Tammy Morris, Miss Pole Dance Russia, Elena Shishkova, Miss Pole Dance Budapest, Alma Pirner, all had the same ethos and ideas about supporting their competitors.  World Pole Dance for me was an idea to promote the ambitious world wide and support the talented individuals and a place to share different cultures on and around the pole on a worlds platform – social media has really helped with this dream enabling us to connect on a daily basis

6 - About the movements on Pole Dance, is there some hardest ?
A.    The tricks and transitions of Pole moves are innovating all the time, each month in the UK we seem to have a new combination and or a new trick emerging every month – this is what makes it so exciting and challenging- there is something for everyone, even people with disabilities or physical or mental challenges.  I love to support people who have challenges for me the pole is their prop they can connect too without the fear of being wrongly judged

7 - About Food, What do you like?
A.    For me I  like healthy food, fruit and salads are my favourites, free from preservatives so making my own food is important to me and my family We like to cook  fresh greens and live food with very little meats is my favourite

8 - Do you remember about your first class on Pole Dance? Tell me.
A.     When I started pole there were no structured pole classes as we have now, only exotic dance such as lap dancing, pole dancing and striptease. I learnt my first few moves from an exotic dancer who I found advertising how to learn to lap, strip and pole dance in 3 hours, I found I was a natural and she asked me,’ why arnt you in the gentleman’s clubs you would make a fortune?’  This was not my focus although I was extremely flattered t the time

9 - Tell me more about your life in Brighton. what do you like,  cool places to visit, things like that.
A.     Brighton England is an awesome place to be, cosmopolitan and open minded, the perfect place for me to start up pole dancing  in 2001, for women’s empowerment confidence, fitness and fun (our motto) without the fear of being labelled a stripper or prostitute, which was so stereotypical 15 years ago

10  About the flexibility in Pole Dance. Is it hard to do?
A, The beauty of pole is that you can make it as hard or as easy as you like, there is always something to challenge yourself with, whether it be a new move or  new combination of moves.  To advance on the pole yes you need to be flexible both on and off the pole. I like to include flexibility training in the programmes from an early beginning This is not only good for pole but also for good maintenance ad well being  of the body

11 - Do you like to use cosmetics?
A.         Yes I like to use cosmetics.  I am a qualified beauty therapist in my life before pole so health and well being and beauty products are an important part of my life .I can go many days without makeup but I love also to be adventurous with makeup too. Theatrical makeup in particular is something of interest to me as I have a theatrical and performance based background too

12 - About your style, what do you like to wear ?
A.    As a child I never followed fashion, my mother used to dress me in boys clothes (my brothers hand me downs) so for me I was never able to follow fashion.  I did however have a reputation with my family and friends that I could always make something look stylish, sexy and glamourous
My daughter however is very much into fashion and design, having studied it at college and now she has become my fashion guru.  I like to look professional and stylish yet as an action woman, who is always on the go, I need to be comfortable and confident prepared for all eventualities

13 - Leave a message, whatever.
A.    For me pole fulfils all my needs. My love to connect and help, likeminded people, who focus on their own self-development and growth, to continue to create a thriving community with likeminded motivated, individuals who also love and care about others development

I would like to thank you about it. Count on me always!! Kisses!!
Many thanks for your questions

Best wishes

3 Wrist & Forearm Pole Strength and flexibility training Pole Passion

Pole Fitness and Dance
Many of us forget how important our wrists are for pole fitness and dance and quite often forgotten about it until it’s too late
In our experience, as a student progresses from the foundations and eager to go upside down, they underestimate the importance of strong forearms and wrists (to hold our bodies up on the poles and to come down again safely) – many students admit sometimes it’s been a good 10 or sometimes 15 years since they did a hand stand!!

So each week focus on the wrists and forearms from the beginning of your training
These simple exercises off the pole  can be included as part of the warm ups or as the main component of your lesson or at home as additional pole practice

Exercise 1
Use a  squeezy stress ball or a tennis ball
Squeeze tightly for a count of 5 seconds  (this should not cause pain or discomfort)
On each hand
Repeat ten times x 3 sets

Exercise 2
Wrist flexion and extension
Wrist flexion
Palm facing upwards, elbow into chest, supporting your forearm with your other hand
create a fist - gently raise and lower your fist keeping the arm at 90 degrees bend
Wrist extension
Palm facing downward, elbow into chest, supporting your forearm with your other hand
create a fist – gently raise and lower your fist keeping your arm at 90 degrees bend
10 moves x 3 sets Stop if it is uncomfortable and do not over train this movement 2 /3 times per week
To make this harder and advance this movement
Add a stretch band for resistance (held by your foot) or hold a light weight in the hand whilst performing this movement

Exercise 3
Circular wrist movements
Move your wrists, with your hands in a fist position, left and right
and in a circular motion in both directions
repeat for a count of 20 x 2 on each hand

World Pole Sport champion says goodbye to crown

Natalia Tatarintseva World Pole Sport and Fitness, World champion and National Miss Pole Dance champion says goodbye to her World's Crown
On 1st February Ukraine handed over the Worlds Crown to the United Kingdom winner Kate Czepulkowski
Natalia hosted masterclasses and performed an exquisite routine, dressed to impress with her artistic interpretations on and around the two poles
Never seen before clothing on and around a pole with unique half leggings covering only one leg in luminous pink

The beautiful Natalia was delighted to hand over her crown at the Hawth theatre to Kate and gave her well wishes as she revelled in the 800+ crowd cheering at her faultless routine that warranted her world class success

We hope to be seeing more of Natalia in 2014 at Miss Pole Dance Ukraine later on in the year
