FOUR WAYS FOR POLE INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COURSE SUCCESS www.polepassion.com

FOUR WAYS FOR POLE  INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COURSE SUCCESS

MANAGE YOUR TIME WISELY
Whether you have chosen to invest in a course you attend in person or whether you have opted for online home study package make sure you have allowed enough preparations and study time of the materials supplied
This of course will vary from person to person but by a guide allow minimum 16 hours study.  Of course your learning never stops but initially before the exam allow this time  minimum to prepare for your course.
Map out how many hours you can commit to your studies each week, and write on a calendar or journal what you actually plan to accomplish. Be realistic. And remember that you’re more likely to meet your goals if you write them down. Do not feel defeated if you are not able to study for hours on end. Whether you dedicate one to two hours, or 30 minutes daily to your studies, make the most of that time.

STUDYING THE CONTENT
Allow time to read and practice the moves for yourself
Then allow additional time in focusing on the words that you will be using whilst teaching
This for many this is the hardest part of transitioning from student to instructor status using the correct terminology including the muscle names correctly

USE YOUR RESOURCES
We all learn differently. Whether you are a visual, auditory or tactile/kinaesthetic learner, there is something for everyone. Recognize your personal learning style and use it to your advantage. This we cover on the courses too.  Use the social media YouTube and visual aids to learn to break down the moves and combinations paying particular attending to and feet body alignments and head positions in all the moves you seen – begin to break down the technicalities of the moves too

ASK FOR HELP
This is so important. No one knows everything, and we are all constantly learning in this relatively new concept of exercise, so please do not be afraid to ask for assistance. Trying to navigate through this experience can be daunting, especially if this is a new career for you. Remember that you have support throughout your course process, and even after you are a certified pole fitness professional. Our trainers assessors and course staff are dedicated to helping you achieve success, so make the most of our expertise and experience and we look forward to supporting you as long as you need us.

Pole Instructor Training in Turkey whilst the BOMB went off - March 2016

So this Blog is a big one !!  TEACHER TRAINING IN TURKEY

Part of my self development journey, was to learn to speak publicly, to be heard and to say something that really made  a difference to not only my life but to that of others ;/
My mum was a school teacher and very much an academic - I on the other hand did not have those gifts in my younger years

I always felt I was failing her and myself because I couldn't express myself with words or emotion - it was like sometimes I wasn't here or even born.

There are some people I believe you meet for a reason, maybe a reminder of my former self?
I believe in making your own destiny and we all have the powers and ability if we truly want it - I love to surround myself with individuals who are willing to try something new and put in 1000% percent to set a new standard of themselves and others, to those who listen speak and pass on their knowledge to others, to value themselves foremost no matter what age or sexual orientation they possess.

I had the most amazing experience in Turkey recently, a city of unrest and social turmoil, with my friends and family, my 21 year old daughter included, telling me to cancel the trip, but this I could not do, questioning myself, am  being selfish and not putting my family first, how would I have felt had this been my daughter travelling to an unstable economy?
I arrived on the the Friday before 4 intense days and within hours of meeting my amazing host family Sevinc, her sister, Selen and their father, I became  extremely ill.  Now i'm never ill !!  was this something I had picked up from the food on the plane??  Not wanting to show my weakness as that to me would have been failure  I soldiered on (my advanced leadership training had kicked in)

Turkey - Wow studios and International pole instructor  teacher training - Bombings during our training  - A new class distraction
March 19-22nd 2016

A combination of emotions working along the most incredible school at Wow studios headed by Sevinc
Such an inspirational and talented lady who has accumulated so much knowledge over her 7 years of poling and has dedicated her team to such success, leadership and empowering the modern women of Turkey
A massive thank you to Elena Artamonova from Russia who was exceptional as always, representing Pole Passion, sharing her wealth of knowledge and pole dance and sport excellence & experience
Its always a pleasure to work along side the dedication in creating outstanding students internationally, sharing her signature techniques, pushing and demanding nothing but perfection, creating such a solid and professional foundation to the next generation of teachers, in what could have been described as such a vulnerable and dangerous economic climate
A massive thank you to Mahmet Uzel, Professor of anatomy & physiology in Turkey who provided us with a two hour comprehensive lecture that he specifically designed for Pole Passion
Unfortunately this time I was unable to explore the beautiful culture and tourist places  due to the bombing of a public place on the Tuesday (day 2 of our training) and of our stay, however the hospitality far surpassed my expectations and I can't thank our hostess Sevinc and her family enough for reassuring us and looking after us
So moving forward I am excited to be looking forward to safer times in this country so we can continue to grow professionally within our pole sport fitness and pole dance nation

So what have I learnt ?
-  That I will continue to be a risk taker for the greater higher purpose
-  To continue to network internationally and share our knowledge and support for others to provide a fun, safe and professional education for all
-  that people will forget what you say but will remember how you made them feel

In times of fear - people look for a leader, someone with some words of wisdom or a positive emotion to share, one who is willing to share a moment of gratitude - For me this lady was Sona Ertekin, a student attending the training, who stepped up during the feedback times I was giving to all, at the end of day 2; the Foundation Instructor Training certification day
I have travelled another country listening to the pole people of Turkey, their challenges and their growth ideas , their understanding of techniques and core beliefs, furthermore uniting the world of pole side by side
Instructor training is about change for the good, education & learning together, innovation and creating a road to further your pole journey beyond your expectations is about
Time for change

Learning to fly...

I am a 39 year old writer from Istanbul, Turkey and I started to learn pole dancing when I was 37. I trained six months at WOW Classes and after a one year break, I got back on the dragon last year first with private lessons from Rita the Moon and then with the awesome ladies of WOW Asia. So I have about 1.5 years of pole training and I never imagined I would come this far in my own pole journey. And when I say this far, I only mean the on-going passion, time and effort I put into this. Pulling my first front split at 38 years and doing whatever I can on the pole on a daily basis, hell yeah, I’m totally loving this
Simply put: pole makes me feel good, I love doing it.

Before participating Pole Passion’s Pole Instructor Training Course in Istanbul Turkey in March this year, I had many questions in my mind: Am I good enough? Is this investment truly meaningful for me? Will I be able to do it?

I had zero experience in teaching pole, except showing a few moves to my little sister about a year earlier, which didn’t end up so productive. At these first early attempts I realized how much work it requires to teach someone something, anything… I was always amazed when I noticed the knowledge, strength, stamina, effort, background work and endless patience my teachers put into their work when they were teaching.

I am a freelance writer/translator/editor and I do love my job, so I was never one to imagine running away from my current career to become a full time professional pole dance teacher or anything like that. When I applied for the Pole Passion instructor training, all I had in mind was to improve myself as a pole dancer and give myself a chance to see if I could teach. Since I take my hobbies pretty seriously and invest years and years in my passions (rock climbing, 10 years professional dj’ing, advanced scuba diving, cooking etc. etc.) I wanted to see if I could take myself to the next level. If I’m pole dancing 2-4 days a week and thinking about pole related anything and everything non-stop every day, why not dig deeper or fly a little higher perhaps…

The training process was intense and definitely tiring but always fun and very rewarding. The most valuable thing I learnt from it was what I needed to improve in myself to become a decent pole dance instructor. Or to be more clear, I learned what it takes to become a good pole dance instructor: Time, Endless Research, Planning Ahead, Flexibility, Adaptability, Creativity, Safety, Punctuality, Respect, Control, Self Confidence and a Crazy Love of Pole for one thing… And of course the most important thing is Safety and safety always comes first.  Also a warm heart and a friendly attitude would never hurt… So the Pole Passion Instructor experience showed me clearly what I already had, and what I needed to improve. Plus it was two days with dozens of awesome pole ladies and it was much fun…

The most difficult part for me was preparing months of lesson plans ahead, and I thought I didn’t have enough moves to fill these classes but now I know my lesson plans were not very realistic and should have been progressing at a much slower and a more natural pace. Also the practical part was sooo exciting that it made my legs wobble during the exam, but it was rewarding and very educational since this is more or less what you’re going to be experiencing, if you keep up the good work and have students one day.

I am deeply grateful to everybody who gave me a chance to take part in this training, but I am especially touched by the professionalism and courage of Dear Kay and Dear Elena, coming to our country in a difficult political climate and a democracy crisis like this. It was amazing to see how they kept going without blinking even after the news of terrorist suicide bomb attacks hit the crowd, and completed the training program. The next day after the bombing, tears filled my eyes when we were all together, warming up with funky disco tunes early in the morning with Kay. Such sweet memories, such great women, so much love and tenderness… This is what Pole Dancing really means to me: Because it defines women as a whole, in all her strength and tenderness, in all her wildness and sensitivity, in all her truth and in all her glory…

It’s only been a month since the training and I still see “teaching” pole dance as a means to intensify and improve my own experience rather than a professional move, but I already have a student now and I’m seeing results, which feels amazing. I am lucky to have a close friend who wanted to start learning pole dancing and she wanted to train with me. So now I have a chance to work on my teaching skills and see where this is going. My student just turned 40 this year, it’s her first time pole dancing and even after only 2-3 classes it makes me sooooo happy to see her that she is truly enjoying it and improving herself every week.  It is a great pleasure to see her leave my place with a smile on her face and come back again with joy and enthusiasm the next week. I never imagined it would be such a great feeling to make someone happy by teaching what you love and see the results of this labour of love.

As for my own experience of teaching it is simply how I imagined it to be: Rewarding, Demanding and Fun! I spend hours, day and night researching, practicing and planning our sessions but in the end I am sure that I’m learning more from it than my student does. I am learning the language, the grammar and the foundations of pole dancing which gives me a better understanding of how moves are linked, or what kind of effort it takes to create combos and mini-choreographies. Every lesson teaches me the beauty of basic moves and how important they are. How there would be no dance without the flow and with just the tricks. And that no matter how great all the acrobatic moves may look, nothing beats the basics when you put some feeling into it and really start dancing. And clearly this is another experience where I am learning more than I am teaching; getting a better understanding of what I must improve in myself both as a dancer and an instructor, and getting a clearer vision of where I am headed in my pole dance journey myself.

As a trained linguist with a BA in American Culture and Literature and an MA in cinema theory, I’ve been working as a writer in different guises such as copywriter, journalist, radio programmer, travel writer, book editor, translator etc. all my life but in these last five years I have been working on my first novel “Unavoided Adventures” which will hopefully be in print soon and I can safely say that for someone who needs to work sitting in front of the computer all day, some kind of physical activity is essential. I believe that pole dancing is a way to balance my body and soul, it is where my muses are happy and free to fly as they please

Like I said earlier above: Pole makes me feel good, I love doing it.

Highlights of Pole Passion International Training programs

Pole Passion’s foundations were established in the Pole industry from its birth here in the UK since the early 2000’s before it was desired as a fitness form and most definitely before it was considered as one of the new ideas for thousands of ladies and some men, across the world to keep healthy and active while having great challenging fun.

Founder Kay Penney, passionate about all things fitness, decided to think out of the box and design something new for the fitness industry. Of course it didn’t start out like that as Kay found the techniques on and around the pole a personal challenge when looking for something to rekindle her figure and mental positivity, after having given birth of her third child. A mammoth and almost impossible task at that time, especially as the fitness consultant she employed to help her, after one year, told her Pole Dance and Fitness  would not be accepted or accredited in the fitness industry and IF they were,!!  it would take at least 8 years or so – Fuelled by those words, Kay, what some two years later, had Pole Passion’s comprehensive fitness Instructor level 1 and Advanced level 2 courses accredited by REP’s  (Register of Exercise Professionals) the route of all European fitness professionals that are monitored yearly and  governed by strict code of conducts.  Later published, Elite Accredited Level 3 and Burlesque for Fitness accredited courses, now also offered.

Pole Passion today is one of the most highly recognised Pole Training Providers and Brands in the pole world – developing comprehensive courses with great, comprehensive content and excellent value for money.  One day courses costing as little as £150, we also offer discounts if more than one course is booked at the same time too. Hundreds of students have attended  since the launch of the fitness courses in 2008, participants as far from the USA, Russia, Europe, Ireland and Scotland to learn the Pole Passion way.  We pride ourselves on being thorough and progressing  each individual to their next stage, before, during and after they have attended our courses, whether an experienced instructor already with  a fitness and dance back grounds looking for the well-deserved credibility or whether totally new to fitness, dance and or the pole 

The main benefits of becoming accredited have to be by far the credibility aspect and industry recognition in what you do is recognised and awarded to the highest of industry awards not to mention the fact your insurance will be cheaper and valid too.  You will have the confidence and peace of mind you are teaching safely, correctly and effectively:-  learning ways of progressing and supporting your participants without causing possible delayed injury or incorrect techniques. Visit our website for our testimonials - http://www.polepassion.com/fitness/become-instructor/

Our other achievements
Uniquely we wrote the Code of Pole Practice in 2006 to help set the industry standards, desperate to keep and acknowledge all the hard work that was being invested and created in the pole industry by this time, from many key individuals throughout the UK. We designed rules and regulations for national and international competitions of all grades and created courses and invited the first master trainers to the UK by the arrival of Pantera USA in 2006 to support UK polers.  NEW for 2012 we are now offering license opportunities to join our team at a very low set up costs once you have reached the required industry standards.  We also offer you to join our  Rpole equipment affiliate programme whereby sharing the rewards throughout the pole industry.  Rpole was innovated by the Pole Passion team as there was a need for a portable and lightweight pole that could go anywhere, easily, to support our training programmes – Today we are proud to have created the world’s first, most portable and lightest pole in the world.  We inspire people from all walks of life, from world champions, Felix Cane and Alesia Vazmitsel  to everyday people, like me, offering world wide networking opportunities and to be part of World Pole Dance and Miss Pole Dance UK, owned and operated by Pole Passion, with our motto always being  -
 Empowerment, Confidence, Fitness & FUN!

Components of Pole Fitness from Pole Passion

Components of pole fitness from Pole Passion www.polepassion.com

Alesia Vazmitsel ~ World Pole Sport & Fitness Champion 2011

Think F.I.T. - So why has Pole fitness become so popular as the new form of exercise in gyms world wide? It's easy, the techniques incorporate all the elements and components of fitness - identified by Kay Penney, founder of Pole Passion, in 2001 when she first embarked on pole exercise and begun to write her extensive instructor training programme . With her comprehensive fitness experience and knowledge she begun her quest to make it available to all, safely and effectively.

So how does Pole Fitness work?? To make physical improvements in your body, you need to work your body and muscles harder than usual. This is referred to as the overload principle. As your body becomes more conditioned, you need to increase the frequency, intensity, or time of your workouts in order to continue improving your pole fitness level.
Frequency: How often you exercise on the pole . For beginners, consider starting with 2-3, 45 minutes to 1 hr sessions per week.

Intensity: How hard you exercise. For example, the pace you walk or spin around the pole, the amount of weight you lift (you can always add leg weights or wrist weights to increase this increasing your heart rate too.

Time: How long you perform an activity. "Time" can also refer to the number of sets or repetitions you perform in your sequences and training and the length of your performance and routine Start off with 1 minute routines then progess in 30 seconds at a time until you reach competition and world class standard of 6 minutes.
Exercise Component 1: Aerobic Exercise in general

Aerobic exercise increases the health and function of your heart, lungs, and circulatory system. For maximum effectiveness, aerobic exercise needs to be rhythmic, continuous and involve the large muscle groups (primarily located in the lower part of your body.) Pole fitness incorporates this component such as walking, jogging, cycling, aerobic dance, and stair climbing, all being excellent examples of activities that use large muscle groups. Activities combining upper and lower body movements such as Pole fitness and cross-country skiing, rowing, and swimming can lead to even higher levels of aerobic capacity.

Exercise Component 2: Strength Training in general

Strength training is the process of exercising with progressively heavier resistance to build or retain muscle. Unless you perform regular strength exercise, you will lose up to one-half pound of muscle every year of life after age 25. Muscle is a very active tissue with high energy requirements, even when you are asleep, your muscles are responsible for over 25% of your calorie use. An increase in muscle tissue causes a corresponding increase in the number of calories your body will burn, even at rest. So by building the pole dancing muscles will help increase your metabolism.

Exercise Component 3: Flexibility in general

Flexibility is a critical element of an exercise program but it is often overlooked. Stretching is important for a number of reasons; increases physical performance, decreases risk of injury, increases blood supply and nutrients to the joints, increases neuromuscular coordination, reduces soreness, improves balance, decreases risk of low back pain, and reduces stress in muscles and gives you more variety on the pole and during floor work.

Strength Training basics

We’d like to fill in the gap by giving you the foundation of any safe and effective strength
training routine. You’ll learn the names of the major muscle groups and the exercises that target them, the difference between sets and reps, the elements of proper form, and the basics of frequency and progression.

The Major Muscle Groups during Pole Exercise

When selecting exercises for your strength routine, it’s important to choose at least one exercise for each major muscle group. This prevents muscle imbalances that can lead to injury. Let’s take a look at the major muscle groups and a few of the exercises that target them:

• Gluteals – This group of muscles (often referred to as ‘glutes’) includes the gluteus maximus, which is the big muscle covering your bottom. Common exercises are the squat and the leg press machine. The glutes also come into play during lunges, tall box step ups, and plyometric jumps. POLE – Body swerve, high leg hook.

• Quadriceps – This group of muscles makes up the front of the thigh. Exercises include squats, lunges, leg extension machine, and leg press machine. POLE – pole glide, double and single leg descend, pole back, back hook spin

• Hamstrings – These muscles make up the back of the thigh. Exercises include squats, lunges, leg press machine, and leg curl machine POLE – double and single leg decend, donkey kick

• Hip abductors and adductors – These are the muscles of the inner and outer thigh. The abductors are on the outside and move the leg away from the body. The adductors are on the inside and pull the leg across the centerline of the body. These muscles can be worked with a variety of side-lying leg lifts, standing cable pulls, and multi-hip machines. POLE - Back hook spin knees apart

• Calf – The calf muscles are on the back or the lower leg. They include the gastrocnemius and the soleus. The gastrocnemius is what gives the calf its strong rounded shape. The soleus is a flat muscle running under the gastrocnemius. Standing calf raises give the gastrocnemius a good workout, while seated or bent knee calf raises place special emphasis on the soleus. These small muscles can handle a relatively large amount of weight. POLE – standing on tip toes, pogo pole jumps

• Low back – The erector spinae muscles extend the back and aid in good posture. Exercises include the back extension machine and prone back extension exercises. These muscles also come into play during the squat and dead lift. POLE - good posture, pole desend and assend

• Abdominals – These muscles include the rectus abdominus, a large flat muscle running the length of the abdomen, and the external obliques, which run down the sides and front of the abdomen. Exercises such as standard crunches and curls target the rectus abdominus. Reverse curls and crunches (where the hips are lifted instead of the head and shoulders) target the lower portion of this muscle. Crunches involving a rotation or twist work the external obliques. POLE – high leg kick, spinning scissors

• Pectoralis major – Large fan shaped muscle that covers the front of the upper chest. Exercises include push-ups, pull-ups, regular and incline bench press, and the pec deck machine. POLE floor work, floor to standing

• Rhomboids – Muscles in the middle of the upper back between the shoulder blades. They’re worked during chin-ups, dumbbell bent rows, and other moves that bring the shoulder blades together. POLE – centre body on pole

• Trapezius – Upper portion of the back, sometimes referred to as ‘traps.’ The upper trapezius is the muscle running from the back of the neck to the shoulder. Exercises include upright rows, and shoulder shrugs with resistance. POLE – pole climb

• Latisimus dorsi – Large muscles of the mid-back. When properly trained they give the back a nice V shape, making the waist appear smaller. Exercises include pull-ups, chin-ups, one arm bent rows, dips on parallel bars, and the lat pull-down machine. POLE – Pole climb

• Deltoids – The cap of the shoulder. This muscle has three parts, anterior deltoid (the front), medial deltoid (the middle), and posterior deltoid (the rear). Different movements target the different heads. The anterior deltoid is worked with push-ups, bench press, and front dumbbell raises. Standing lateral (side) dumbbell raises target the medial deltoid. Rear dumbbell raises (done while seated and bent at the waist, or lying face down on a flat bench) target the posterior deltoid. POLE - spins

• Biceps – The front of the upper arm. The best moves are biceps curls. They can be done with a barbell, dumbbells, or a machine. Other pulling movements like chin-ups and upright rows also involve the biceps. POLE – back bend pose, pole climb

• Triceps – The back of the upper arm. Exercises include pushing movements like push-ups, dips, triceps extensions, triceps kick-backs, and overhead (French) presses. The triceps also come into play during the bench press and military press. POLE – Caterpillar Flag Flatline Scorpio
