Kat & Dave's Bio
Kat owns Nottingham-based pole company PoleKat Fitness, and is passionate about pushing pole into mainstream fitness. Kat was supposed to be competing with her pole partner Jack, but after training him for a year, Jack quit just two weeks before the competition, leaving Kat with no dance partner. In a bid to show Kat how much he loves her, David, Kat's boyfriend, stepped up and offered to be her partner for the competition. Dave has never danced or poled before, and they had just two weeks to make a routine and costumes from scratch. Kat says that although she no longer expects to win anything this year, she couldn't bare the thought of pulling out completely and letting down all the amazing people that have come to support. Now she just wants to get out on stage and have some fun.

Dave later went on the propose to Kat during the evening celebrations - Kat said yes and they are set to be married on July 17th 2014

Information on Pole Dancing gripping aids and should you be using them?

Which Pole dancing grip? And should I be using them?
Here below is a list of grips most often used in the pole dance and fitness industry
The beauty of all these grips is that they last a long time and are all great value for money and can so improve pole technique if used correctly – always consult a qualified Pole Fitness Expert when doing pole fitness

Mighty Grip
Dry white powder reducing moisture
Mighty grip is a great gripping powder  reducing moisture from the palms creating a more secure hand grip next to the pole – most suitable for beginners as there is not too much tack therefore still allowing a spinning action on the pole

Tite Grip
Orangey liquid reducing moisture

Dry Hands
Creamy liquid reducing moisture

Gorilla Gold
Impregnated cloth transferring sticky substance to skin and to the pole – suitable for more advanced strength tricks and static poses

Itac2
Tacky solid wax transferring a resin to skin and pole

Liquid Chalk
A liquid white chalky barrier preventing moisture

Stickum
A tacky spray for the skin creating a sticky barrier

Dew Point Pole
This unique pole grip has the properties of a hydrating moisturiser (liquid) that will make you grip on the pole too – the benefits you can moisturise the skin as well as introducing a more grippy skin, making it less dry and flaky looking

Each grip we stock all has incredible properties for pole fitness and dancing choreography  - Sometimes it really is just trial and error before you feel settled into a grip that works for you
I quite often carry a selection of grips  depending on the weather! My emotional state! My muscle strength that day - and which trick I'm attempting - oh and which pole I'm training on
At Pole Passion we have a selection of old 50 mm diameter poles and new 38 mm poles which does affect the grip of a participant - it's important to factor things in like the following

1. The type of pole pose or hold you are executing/ learning focusing on its level of difficulty (always use a mat! )
2. Are you linking it with a spin ( movement) or fluid transition in and out of your new trick - some grips will grip too well and won't allow this -so be careful you don't hurt or strain your body
3. Are your muscles developed enough to hold your new move - you may now have a fantastic grip but can your muscles hold the grip safely too
4. Humidity in the room- this affects your body temperature and pole gripping properties - one grip might work for someone in Canada but not in the UK
5. Type of pole you are using? Stainless steel has better natural gripping properties than chrome plated - the cheaper poles quality is generally lower than the more expensive quality range - with poles you generally get a better quality pole the more you pay
6. How old is your chrome plated pole as these metals wear therefore reducing the gripping properties quite early on in your pole training - some chrome plated poles only last 1 year with average use of 3-4 times per week sometimes less - the chrome wears off leaving a more silkier slippery surface for the hand grip often found where the hands are placed the most
7. Is your skin free from moisturiser and natural oils including products such as tanning creams - products and oils can be absorbed by some metals, poles such as brass for example which means the oils become impregnated in the pole making it more difficult to grip despite cleaning the poles
8. Do you use bathing showering products that contain added moisturisers that will make your skin more slippery?
9. What is the diameter size of your pole - this will affect your gripping properties too - 38's have been proven to create a more secure hand grip than that of its bigger brother of a 50mm diameter therefore creating more confidence in your hand grip on a 38 narrower pole
10 and lastly let’s not forget your metal awareness and preparation for gripping - if you’re feeling unsure of a more - how to get in and out of a move safely and correctly with a spotter on hand then naturally you will be more nervous - which means you perspire (added moisture) creating a more anxious you - a person’s confidence and psyche must be that of a positive one to succeed in safe grips
I hope some of this has helped
We cover about grips in our instructor training  courses in more depth too xx

2012 Miss Pole dance UK National Championships Mr Pole fitness UK

Sarah Scott, Bendy Kate and Nico Modestine, The 8th Miss Pole Dance UK Fitness and Dance championships was held on the 2nd June in Brighton where three amazing championships showcased their skill and athleticism of the most talented pole dance performers in the UK
Sarah Scott taking the new crown of Miss Pole Dance UK female champion amongst 12  finalists
Sarah & Bendy Kate taking the Doubles category
Nico Modestine only 6 months into pole took the Mr Pole Fitness UK title

At 3pm the males lead the day with  the  Mr Pole Fitness UK Championship following on from that at 4pm followed Miss Pole Dance UK doubles category to culminate in the  finale of Miss Pole Dance UK professional category female singles category.  These competitions were not possible without the amazing contribution of the international judges this year who supported the UK competitors

Headed by founder Kay Penney, all three competitions were over looked by Kay herself. Kay still as passionate to select professional and friendly ambassadors to represent what she has worked so hard for over the last 10 years, representing pole artistry, educating and promoting the talented and ambitious to fly the flag of this still relatively new form of dance and fitness - over the years Kay is excited to see the stigma decrease year by year - as her message was simple back in 2005 - providing a stage where the performers could showcase their art and passion without the fear of being wrongly judged - and with the increase of national support with the winners of this prestigious national championship focusing on this gallant task - for all the competitors it not just about the 5 minutes they get to perform it becomes their life, their dedicated religion and art.

International judge Alma Pirner, who has become a very dear friend who supports us in the UK and internationally too.Alma is the organiser of the Hungarian Miss Pole Dance National championships since 2005 who is also the owner  and creator of the first Pole fitness company in Hungary, performer and instructor at dollhouse aerial studio in Budapest,  next on the judging panel was Akos, partner of Alma who is an accomplished teacher in fitness and pole fitness and is the envy of many a male pole fitness instructor, he has a very active role and supports dollhouse and the national pole dance championships in Budapest and was co host with Alma last year at the World Pole Dance  - World Pole Sport & Fitness Championships last October in Budapest

Bailey Hart
All the way from Australia - trained at Bobbies Pole Studio, and currently teaches at  Suzie Q's
Bailey is a unique pole dancer in that she is continuously growing and diversifying,  exploring new entertaining and sometimes abstract performances.

Luxe L'etoile
Luxe is the consecutive Asia Pacific  - Classic Pole Dance Champion 2010 and 2011 and has performed internationally on stage with some of the world’s best  including world pole dance finalist Jenyne Buttefly, Natasha Wang, Duncan West and Chelle Hafner

Jess Leanna Norris.
This incredible lady at such a young age took the Miss Pole Dance UK professional winning title last year having waited patiently for almost 3 years as it was her ambition to enter this national championships at 18 years old – she is an inspiration and ambassador for the UK and pole fitness and dance in general who has an amazing company JLN, with wonderful staff and support from her students

Unfortunately
Deb Riley was not able to be with us  due to last minute unforeseen circumstances, neither world champion males finalist, Keem Martinez and Alesia Vazmitsel  - the current world champion

Our special  thanks go unquestionably to following sponsors who without their contribution and support the event would not be possible

Dew Point Pole Grip - Ingredients from Pole Passion

I was recently asked the ingredients of Dew Point Pole body grip So here it is Distilled blue solar water Vegetable glycerine Phenoxylethanol Calphryl glycol The grip comes in a choice of a clear or a glittery coverage. A very fine spray coverage used for the legs, arms and torso this incredible grip is also a moisturiser too!! Contrary to what we all preach as pole instructors to remove all moisturisers before training - this new innovative product hydrates the skin too which is especially beneficial if you suffer from dry skin. It is highly recommended to start off with the medium coverage and either take it up to ultra if its not enough or take it down to light coverage if the medium is too grippy. I personally prefer the ultra grip spray but then after nearly 10 years of not using a moisturiser on my non poling days my skin has become dry. The sample pack is probably the most popular product we sell giving you all three coverage strengths which will allow you to add and mix your strengths too 3 small sprays of 10ml and ideal for your pole bag For more information check out our online shop http://www.polepassion-shop.com

Is it safe to use a fake tan during pole dancing for fitness?

Do Pole Dancers Use tanning products and is it safe to do so?

- We do generally have a code of conduct for safety reasons here.

Do NOT to apply a face tan or body tan up to 24 hours before going on the pole and always shower after tan application.
This is for two reasons as some tanning products can cause a slight slippery (oil based) residue which may make a participant slip off the pole (not a good practice and very dangerous!) the second reason is they may deposit a slippery residue when using the equipment for other people using the equipment.
Our general rule is NOT to apply any cream, lotions or moisturisers prior to going on the equipment - showering before is highly recommended.

There are many pole gripping products now on the market, that are suitable for use, prior to pole which helps with pole technique, however non that are of a tanning/colouring nature for the skin!!

Mighty grip – powder based
Dew Point Pole – Moisturising grip
Gorilla Gold – tacky wax impregnated cloth
Liquid Chalk – liquid chalky based

Benefits of Pole Fitness

The Benefits of Pole Dance Fitness with Pole Passion

At the mention of pole dancing, the image that comes to mind is not always one of fitness for some people, but the fact is that pole dancing is now a mainstream form of fitness with gyms around the world now accepting this physical form of fitness and dance because it offers an all over workout that is fun and more appealing than the usual workouts and suitable for all women regardless of age, shape or fitness level as instruction and moves are adapted to suit everyone. The important thing is that you just have fun!

Pole dance fitness mixes gymnastics, ballet, modern dance and offers an all over body workout improving muscle tone, burning calories and leaving you feeling empowered, fit and more sexy.

During the classes you need to be able to complete the warm up session, grip the pole effectively and safely, have freedom of movement and feel good, so you need to ensure you are wearing the correct clothing and follow some very simple guide lines. No oils or moisturisers must be used on the body prior to all lessons as a health and safety element, as bare legs are essential for safety reasons, if you want to grip on to the pole (you will slip with tights or trousers on). The ideal outfit is a pair of short shorts, skirt or hot-pants (if you are feeling a bit more confident), and something comfortable, but not restrictive, on your top half (a T-shirt is ideal) and trainers for pole fitness.

Pole Passion, one of the first Pole Fitness schools worldwide, have pioneered Pole Fitness since 2003 and have created a National Pole Dance Competition ‘Miss Pole Dance’ (www.misspoledance-uk.com) which is linked with most Countries around the World and incorporating the first World Pole Dance Sport & Fitness Championships creating a World Champion and ambassador for the sport. (www.worldpoledance.com)

Pole Passion also offer accredited and recognised Pole Dance Fitness Instructor Training Courses, approved by Skills Active and registered with the Register of Exercise Professional (REP’s) and this ensures all our instructors are fully qualified to teach Pole Fitness safely, ethically and effectively and further have gained approval from registered Osteopaths that the instruction is safe and beneficial.

Effective and safe teaching is very important and so is the equipment used to teach pole fitness on. Most dance poles require a ceiling fixings which creates problems for most health clubs with the alternative being a stage or podium pole which could be too high, unsafe, very heavy for instructors to assemble and move and completely unsuitable for a health club, so Pole Passion along with Brighton University spent 3 years developing their very own portable dance pole (the R Pole) which is designed to recognised safety standards for free standing fitness equipment and is completely flat to the floor (no platform or stage) allowing floor work and stretching and comes with a safety mat, complying with manual handling regulations too. (www.r-polefitness.com)

Want to know more or learn to teach Pole Dance Fitness?

For more information about pole dance fitness lessons visit www.polepassion.com/fitness and we can offer to help you learn to teach pole fitness safely with ongoing full support.

We look forward to welcoming you at a class soon
