How to win a pole dance competition

To win a pole dance competition, it's important to put in consistent and dedicated practice.
Here are some tips to help you prepare for a Miss Pole Dance UK competition at any level:

1. Technique: Focus on mastering the fundamentals of pole dance, including proper grip, body alignment, and transitions between moves. Take classes from experienced instructors who can provide guidance and feedback.

2. Choreography: Creativity is key in pole dance competitions. Develop a unique and engaging routine that showcases your strengths and highlights your individual style. Choose music that complements your choreography and brings out your personality.

3. Strength and Flexibility: Pole dance requires strength, flexibility, and body control. Incorporate regular strength training exercises and stretching routines into your practice regimen to improve your overall athleticism and execution of moves.

4. Performance Skills: Work on your stage presence and performance skills. Focus on facial expressions, body language, and connecting with the audience. Practice performing your routine multiple times to build confidence and polish your presentation. May be at this stage get someone to be honest with you about your routine, with a view to constant improvement.

5. Mental Preparation: Stay focused, positive, and confident throughout your training and competition journey. Visualise yourself performing your routine flawlessly, and use positive affirmations to boost your self-belief. Manage any pre-competition nerves by practicing deep breathing exercises or meditation techniques, as they really do help.

Remember, winning isn't everything.

One of the first questions many people ask is - Should a bio be written in ​​the first person (referring to yourself as  I) or third person (using your name)?

At Miss Pole Dance UK - we like it written in third person, but it’s not incorrect if you use first person

Keep it short and make your biography interesting (there are many read out on the day of the competition) so make it punchy and informative! Feel free to add in the odd funny comment to keep your audience interested 

How long should my bio be?

Anything between 40-100 words is good

Introduce yourself

• Your name, this may be different from your real name, so make sure you have informed the organisers of this name change

• Your location 

• Which pole school will you be representing

Be genuine and truthful and mention your other experience if you have some and don't be afraid to say it's your first competition too!

Add in your current goals, where do you see yourself in the future

Mention your profession, and how long you have been poling for and if you have any other interesting hobbies

Add in your personality or character you will be using on stage - your bio is an extension of your performance

What is your favourite trick or move or what is your nemesis move (if you have one)

A shout out to those who have helped you create your performance, who and or what inspired your routine and how did you chose your music

Least of all send in your website and social media links - they may not always be read out on the day of the competition but they will be added online for future promotion

You must be aged 16 years old on or before the competition date
Poling for under one year and no inverts are allowed on the pole (upside down moves)
This category has NO pre selection video round - Applicants are awarded a place in the final on a first come first served basis

SEMI PRO STUDENT CATEGORY
You must be 16 or over on the competition date 

Poling for any length of time
You have never taught in a paid capacity
You have never completed a pole instructor training course OR certified as an instructor through recognised training

You have NOT previously entered a Miss Pole Dance UK professional competition in a SINGLES category

This category has a pre selection video round ONLY successful applicants will be invited to compete in the finals

SEMI PRO INSTRUCTOR CATEGORY
You must be aged 16 or over on the competition date 

You have been poling for any length of time
You have previously taught or currently teach pole in a paid capacity or You have completed a pole instructor training course/certified as a pole instructor
You may or may not be currently teaching pole

You have NOT previously entered a Miss Pole Dance UK professional competition in a SINGLES category
This category has a pre selection video round ONLY successful applicants will be invited to compete in the finals

MR POLE FITNESS UK CATEGORY Amateur / Semi pro

You must be 16 or over on the competition date 

Poling for any length of time

You have NOT previously entered a Miss Pole Dance UK professional competition in a SINGLES category

POLEBEAT™ Anybody can enter as long as they are aged 16 or over on the competition date - All contestants must be either a competitor in any category,chaperone,judge,staff member or ticket holding spectator on the day.
This is a freestyle dance off competition

GROUPS CATEGORY
You must ALL be aged 16 or over on the competition date
Minimum of 3 - Maximum of 10 participants per group.
Groups can be made up of all abilities/pole or dance backgrounds.
All Male, all female and mixed sex groups  may enter this category.

CHILDREN & YOUTH CATEGORY

If you have any concerns as we will gladly discuss these with you and offer solutions to keep your RPoles in top working order. Most maintenance is very simple so please ask if you are not sure.

The number one issues we find with the lack of maintenance is; lubrication of the ring in the boss and the silicone sleeve 'migrating' along the frame leg making the frame unstable in use. Both these are very easy to correct and if you need to replace the non-slip silicone sleeve on the boss we have these in stock.

We highly recommend that the silicone oil is used once every month to help to fit the pole in the base.
Please do not use other lubricants like Vaseline or a water based oil, as these dry out and become like glue sticking the pole in the boss and making it hard to remove! If you want a free sample of silicone oil just ask next time you are at the office as we have sample sachets. The correct oil can be found on our website.

Hygiene is a big part of keeping the poles safe to use and 'grippy', so to keep your pole clean, we recommend YOU WIPE IT DOWN WITH A SOFT CLOTH AND VODKA  (Tesco value or similar is fine) as this cleans, sterilizes, dries very quickly and is hypoallergenic. As your RPole is a high quality stainless steel metal, if you scratch it, it can be re polished to a better than new finish, as can the aluminum base if you wanted this mirror polished too. Just ask! Turn around can be within the same day and cost approx £30 per pole. We also offer a bespoke paint option to older powder coated poles. Prices are approx £150 to repaint and offer a graphic finish. PRESS RELEASE  - World Pole Dance Championships 2015 World Pole Sport & Fitness CHINA BEIJING & TEIJIN

Pole Passion, UK, based Pole Fitness Company, is set to host the next World Pole Dance championships in China, Beijing & Tianjin on 11^th & 12^th April 2015

Over 50 men and women National competitors  and 10 professional international pole fitness and dance judges will be descending over the  Friday and Saturday.

Countries included in this international sporting event includes, New Zealand, Belarus, Cyprus, Brazil, Japan, all of Europe, Ireland, Australia, Argentina, Indonesia, Taiwan, China, United Kingdom, Italy Philippines Russia and Ukraine.

Kay Penney Owner of founder of Pole Passion in 2001 and World Pole Dance in 2005 initiating the World Pole Dance Federation, will be collaborating with China’s leading Pole Fitness Company; China Pole Dance, headed by Mr Fing Yuan.  Fing, a former Lawyer, and Kay have been working together formulating this China Pole Sport & Dance championships for over 2 years where they have been sharing and connecting ideas and theories working closely with the cultural and economic challenges of all the competitors worldwide  to coordinate this spectacular event

Kay will be taking over a dedicated UK team of 11 professional competitors in pole sport and dance athletics representing the UK & Ireland including the current World champion ‘Bendy’ Kate Czepulkowski (Females division UK 2014) and Sam Willis (Mr Pole Fitness UK runner up 2014) including Daniel Rosen (Mr Pole fitness UK Champion 2013) Yvette Dusol (Miss Pole Dance UK National Champion 2014) along with 2013 Female Miss Pole Dance UK Champion and Doubles tricks champions Kat Humphrey & Danielle Haynes. Joining them will be a team of 4 including a Chinese Translator who will be supporting Kay with the communication and delivery of the International Teacher Training courses she has written.

The closed, semi finals for the females, the most attended and popular category, will be taking place in Tianjin on  11^th April where 11 other competitors will be selected to join Polina Volchez, last year’s runner up, Natalia Tatarintsva, 2013- 2014 World Champion and Fi Yuan, who will be the chosen champion representing China in the female finals

Each contestant for the finals, from the three categories Men's (9 competitors), synchronised doubles (10 pairs) and females (14 competitors) have to compete a demanding series of combinations incorporating pole tricks, spins, poses transitions between 5-6minutes on two stainless steel poles, one static and one spinning, both creating different dynamics and techniques on and around the pole. The doubles will be performing on two static poles

9 International judges including the very first World Champion Reiko Suemune from Japan, which was the first documented World Pole Dance Championships in 2005 will be  judging  the three categories

Each contestant will be marked
10 marks for the presentation of their routine, including costumes and props enhancing their artistic performance element and storytelling, many contestants bringing in their ancient art and countries history to their presentations.

10 marks for the dance and fitness performance section which includes their variety of choreography music interpretation control and demonstration of strength and power, elegance and grace, throughout their gruelling routine also including the use of both poles and full stage, creating height and depth to their dance and acrobatic performances

15 marks demonstrating the tricks and combination of tricks including fluidity and effortless transitions to their performance  including, but not limited to, floor work, acro balance and circus skills.  Unique styles and moves are awarded more marks

Additional awards are also awarded on the day of Best costume, Best Tricks and the Most Entertaining award for each of the three categories
Last year China competitors , Meng Yifan & Zhong Qianie, were awarded the Best Costume Award in the doubles category and Fang Yi in the female singles category too

For the first time in History the World Pole Dance Federation will also be organising Master Classes from the 2014 World Champions from the UK – Bendy Kate, Kristian Lebedev, Russia and Polina Volchez - Russia

Mr Fing Yung Biao, the head of China Pole Dance; a qualified Lawyer, who now dedicates his time in supporting and professionalising the sport and the national competition in China, has shown considerable attention to the World Pole Dance championships for the last four years and is working hard with the run up to the competition, posing a serious bid to host the largest Pole Dance Championships in the world.

Mr Yung Biao has been studying English to prove better communications between Pole Passion and the head of World Pole Dance and originator Kay Penney, to make this a reality in 2015.
