Pole Fitness and Pole Dancing can help people suffering from Mental Health issues

UK Active and Leeds University have conducted a  study as to how exercise can give a positive benefit and increase the general well being of students who are less active.

Not only can pole help with flexibility, strengthening, and conditioning. It can have a huge impact on the general wellbeing of students suffering from mental health issues

Exercise increases the serotonin levels in the bloodstream therefore giving that feel good feeling, boosts your mood and overall sense of well-being. It can also improve your appetite and sleep cycles, which are often negatively affected by depression.

Regular classes also help balance your body's levels of stress hormones such as adrenaline.

We aim to support a population of vulnerable women who are characterised by a range of issues including histories of physical , emotional and sexual abuse, drug and alcohol addiction, trauma, and mental health problems.
We also support women who may be having a difficult time at one point in their lives – a recent loss such as bereavement, suffering poverty from unemployment, relationship breakdown, a victim of crime, accident or illness/disability.
We offer practical, emotional, and therapeutic support to clients in tailor-made interventions that aim to address a range of underlying issues.
Women value our safe, women-only space and the set of supportive relationships with workers and peers they are able to build here. It integrates the best features of personalisation - supporting women to get their lives back on track; yet it works through collective action - using a mixture of peer support, volunteering and professional support.

Sam King Mr Pole Fitness UK....running around the woods in only his pole shorts!!

Pole Passion Chichester, owned and operated by Karla McCarthy, was proud to host Mr Pole Fitness runner up 2015 and Best Entertainer Champion, Sam King in October 2015, soon after the Mr Pole Fitness UK championships, for a series of one to ones and master classes.

Sam has performed all over the globe as a pole dancer and holds such titles as:-
European Champion 2014,
Polenastics Male Champion 2014,
BPSC Male champion 2014,
Mr Pole fitness UK 2015 Professional Category, Runner up & Best Entertainer Award 2015.

Karla arranged for Sam to visit after he had been supporting his students at Miss Pole Dance UK semis and amateurs, earlier in the year. Sam contacted Karla about a photograph that she had taken and the remainder of the story unfolded.

'Sam taught two workshops at our Chichester venue. An intermediate workshop and his Ninja Moves workshop and with his wonderful teaching manor, I found he was great at adapting to students of all levels without once making anyone feel like they are not achieving. Everyone felt very safe with Sam spotting', explained Karla, 'and during the workshops, Sam was very careful to teach everyone how to spot the moves that were being practised before everyone started so that they could be safe working with each other.'

The content in the workshops was great. Rather than lots of individual moves that may have left people feeling deflated, Sam focussed on walking everyone through some of the combinations of spins and transitions that he is known and loved for. Everyone got through a huge amount of content and everyone was able to achieve something overall. Sam makes the lessons incredibly fun and is amazingly positive and inspiring throughout. Everyone was thrilled to receive one of Sam's 'big tens' at one point or another!

The rest of the weekend was also great fun too . After finishing workshops, the Manager of Pole Passion Chichester classes Karla,  along with some other colleagues took Sam out for dinner and then the night finished off with some fun chat and a cheeky glass of red.

On Sunday morning, Karla picked up Sam and they headed over to Slindon woods where she put her other skills, as a photographer to use and held a woodland photoshoot. Running round the woods with a man in his pole shorts was not the worst job Karla has ever had! They attracted quite the attention from the dog walkers in the woods with massive amounts of positivity being received about the athleticism and strength that Sam's woodland possesses. Once that was complete, it was on to more one to ones for Sam and then a massive plate of nacho's before the train ride home.

Karla has said that all of her girls have demanded that she organises Sam's return next year. He is one of the most kind hearted and genuinely happy people that Karla says she has ever met and she is chuffed to now count him amongst her friends and pole gallery greats! He has said he would be happy to come back again and Pole Passion Chichester cannot wait to get it organised!

Pole Beat Battle winner Rose-A-Lisa 2015- 'Thank you for changing my life'.

Pole Beat Battle winner Rose-A-Lisa 2015

Rose-a-Lisa from Chester
'Thank you for changing my life'

Wow, still can't believe it! I know this was only a fun competition but to me it was so much more.

When my brother left us in 2012 mine and my family's world was torn apart. I lost my confidence, my belief in the world, the universe and in everything I'd ever known & thought. I didn't let myself grieve because I couldn't handle facing the truth so I pushed myself in my work, opened the studio & entered competitions to keep my mind busy.
Over these last couple of years I have been in a dark place & struggled so much mentally, I was so scared of everything and so vulnerable, I didn't recognise myself and didn't like myself very much.
Last year on stage at Miss Pole Dance UK Professional Female Singles it all went wrong & I had an emotional breakdown, yep right on stage in front of 700-800 people including all the UK Polers I admire and respect.

Everything went wrong on that stage, I remember looking out to the audience thinking I didn't deserve to be on that stage, I wasn't good enough and everyone in that room knew it too. It was such a hard experience and knocked my confidence even lower but it made me realise I couldn't carry on and needed professional help.

I've been having counselling since January and it has massively helped. I'm starting to discover who I am and I have a place to talk about my brother and how fucked up I am because he's not here any more.
So I entered Pole Beat to try and get some of my confidence back and to see if I actually loved performing like I used to or to see if it was time to give it up and find something else.

I absolutely loved being on the stage, thank you so much to everyone in the audience/backstage/competitors who cheered for me, you all have no idea how much you have helped me, it was the greatest feeling ever to have people believe in me.

Thank you so much to the judges Kay, Stacey, Annie & Laura, your smiles were so encouraging. To Kay for being such an incredible Lady and creating so many amazing events and incredible opportunities for pole people.

Most of all thank you to all my amazing friends, family & pole instructors for never asking questions, who've listened to me & held my hand when I've cried. And a huge thanks to our wonderful dancers who have stuck by me and helped the business to grow in to the amazing little family it is.

I know I've not won the worlds or an oscar 😂 and I still have a lot of work to do on myself but I've won hope. Life will never be the same without my dear brother but I'm starting to feel hopeful for the future
